4th gen wading depth

Does Toyota publish a maximum wading depth? I'm having a hard time finding anything on the internet.

I really need to do the rear diff breather install. But I'm also worried about the intake and all the electrical things. Where is the ECU? I had one under the seat in an old car, it didn't like taking baths

Officially, the 4runner wading depth is rated maximally at 27.5". However, this is a very optimistic marketing-hype rating...because as you know, the rear differential does not have a breather tube. Beyond the electricals, you need to factor in the transfer case, front differential, and transmission breather heights...these will be lower than your engine air intake i believe.

I have no idea where you ECU is...maybe someone with a 4runner will answer that!

But regardless of ratings, i would hesitate to go any deeper than 20" of water, unless it is for an emergency.

20" is awfully low. With a good bow wave I would have thought it could go much deeper, like 3 feet. The bow wave stops working when you get stuck though

Its quite a rush when your hood is under water and your not even half way across!

700mm or 27.5" would be my guess Look around for Prado120 stuff...

ECU is pass side kick panel. Bottom line is you can go too deep without sucking water into the engine. I agree with Thai, 20" or even less for wimps like me. If I were crossing a flooded road where I knew the depth/traction and wasn't going to stop then I might get more aggressive. Sitting in the water floods every electrical connector that's below the water line. They're supposed to be water proof but I promise you a good twenty minute sit in 27.5" of water will cause grief for years to come

hmm, a few months ago at work we had a big storm that flooded are parking lot with water that when up to above my knees (im 6'2"). My runner sat there for about 2 hours, started up and I proceded home through water that was right below my door. (daystar lift) :dancin:

but anything above the doors :runaway:

Have you done the rear breather mod? I would check your differential fluids just to be on the safe side.

No breather mod but I'm planning on changing fluids just to be sure

I was wheeling in canadian river with a nissian pickup that I use to own.. and hit a
"hole" water went up to the base of my windshield ... that was 4 years ago... and it still sitting in the back in non functional form lol .. that was fun though .. swimming out of it to the side of the river bank
