4th gen wheels on my 3rd gen T4R?

Hi folks- New here. I have a 96 SR5 4WD with stock 15" wheels. The tires are going to need replacing very soon so I'd like to make the jump to a 16" or 17" wheel while I am at it. Ideally I'd just find a set of the stock 16" version of what I have, like what Pikeman is selling, but was wondering if any current 4th gen 17" wheels are direct bolt-on to my 3rd gen? I think the bolt pattern is the same, so it's probably just an offset issue, if anything. I read capthoward's recent thread about his new 2008 Tacoma wheels (which look great), and I'd like to avoid using spacers if possible.

I am in the SF Bay Area of anyone locally has any they'd like to part with, by the way.

Yes the bolt pattern is all the same for the different years of Toyotas. One thing you might want to take into consideration is how big a tire you want to use in the future. While a 285/75(33") will fit on the stock 16" rim most tire manufacturers recommend use on 7.5"-10" rim. Also depending on how big a tire you want to run will determine the need for a spacer if you use a different year/model rim. I believe you can run 265/75's(32") on just about any Toyota rim without any rubbing issues caused by the offset.

Probably wouldn't go bigger than a 32" tire (265/75). I have 31" on my 15 wheels now and want something just a little bigger. The mistake I am trying to avoid making is buying a set of rims from either a 4th gen 4runner or a Tacoma/Tundra that have the same bolt pattern but might have different offset and require spacers to keep the same stance.

I just went and checked out some 16" off a 2000 which were nice rims, but the tires, while having decent tread left, had a manufacture date of week 12 year 2000! So essentially I would have been ditching the tires immediately but the guy wouldn't sell them to me for my rims-only price. Still looking....

about halfway down are the pics of my 4th gen sport wheels. They do sit in a bit more than stock, but its not absolutely horrible looking with out spacers. I did the math at one point, and i think its less than 1/2" per side difference in the offset. I can't find the shot i was looking for, but w/ the back tucked in up, there isn't much room to my flair, so i'm sure w/ the tires i have that if i put spacers on, i will be doing some trimming at the same time.
