4WD Front End Grinding Noise

When i am in 4wd lo or hi and make a hard left turn I have a grinding/loud noise coming from the front end. I think it might just be the drivers side cant really tell. I can get the shifter in 4lo which pops out all the time and i have to hold it in and 4 hi/N work. I cant get it in 2h. But it drives fine in 2wd with the 4wd in neutral.
I have never had a 4wd vehicle before is it supposed to be driven in 2wd with the 4w in neutral?
In 2wd it drives great. I drove it home going 65-70mph for 2 hours.

#1. Dont turn full in 4wd unless your in dirt or sand.
#2. as for the selector popping out it means the transfer case needs a rebuild.
#3. if its grinding wile turning thats very bad! cv shafts are the typical criminal on that.
