4WD (H4) on V6 destroys transmission?

I will check the manual and call the service dealer where I purchased the SE....

what a complex vehicle.......I LIKE it.!!

Yup Thai, and others got it right on.
2WD - 4WD: Ability to change it UNDER 62 MPH

4WD - 2WD: ANY speed

HI - LO: Stopped, in N

4WD (HI): Use at ANY speed. 40/60 split. When it's a little wet out.

4WD (LO): Never go above 20ish.

2WD: Use at ANY speed. Normal weather.

CENTER DIFF LOCK (Only in 4WD, not 2WD): 50/50 split. VSC OFF. ONLY to be used doing doughnuts and slippery stuff. NEVER on pavement.

(My mod) VSC off switch. Used any time. :D BTW, in 2WD, with Revo's and VSC off, the V6 can spin those tires HARD.

Lol. Or like, when you actually need a 50/50 split.. haha. I found that doing donuts in a parking lot in 3 feet of snow, center diff lock meant being stuck.

lol. Well I haven't done an official write up because there are a few issues with my mod.
1) Even though there are 3 wires controlling each func., like ABS, TRAC, and VSC, If one of them is interrupted ALL of those functions go off, Not exactly safe.

2) You can turn VSC off anytime, but in order to turn it back on, you have to restart the car. I usually just put it in N and continue rolling, and restart. Ill get around to a write-up if nobody minds those 2 issues. Its very easy and takes 20 -30 minutes to do.

Now you're throwing logic and reason into the discussion ..... :D

I can't think of a practical reason to run 62 mph in 4WD, but technically, you can do it.

Baja race??? :-p

The guys racing in those do more than 100mph at times.

Ok you got me there, BUT, I'm thinking if ur taking a 4runner on a baja race, ur not taking a 4th gen...

Ah yes, but why the heck would you want to be in 4WD above 62 mph? I cant think of a case...

It's additional traction. Even though VSC is the main safety net at high speed, it's always beneficial to be in AWD/4wd, esp. when the weather gets nasty. This is why those Subaru wagons are so popular and do so well in the northern states...they have AWD, but no VSC (until the past few years).

Another reason, in addition to what has been posted regarding LO gear is to take more strain off your engine in very specific conditions.

If you need to get through a field of mud, or heavy snow, or steep hills Lo gear multiplies your available torque which takes quite a bit of load off the engine.

For those 10 miles each month during the dry weather to keep the front drive axle lubricated. ;):

I for one would love to have a 2H mode on my V8. I wonder what would be involved to make that happen.....since we have the same T-Case etc....as noted in this thread, as the V6's.
