That is because your F150 is a POS! Just kidding. Your '01 F150 probably did not have stability control nor traction control (nor even good tires based on your description!). In addition, an unloaded truck with RWD is not exactly the best thing when things become slippery.

Hey, Hey, Hey now. It wasn't a piece. Still going and got 200k on it. But true on the lack of traction control. I'm kinda partial that way but getting used to the runner. The tires were good. Was probably the combo of RWD and amount of snow.

if you feel like you need to put it in 4H at highway speeds you should probably slow down! We got lots of snow this winter in AB and I left it in 2H 90% of the time. Felt more comfortable switching into 4H as needed than worrying about damaging parts when I hit dry pavement.

What benefit would 4H with locked center diff give you at those speeds? I personally would never use 4H at speeds above 35-40mph and I would slow way down to make the shift. JMHO/YMMV.

Really? I've done the gaper slalom on 80 on the West Slope of the Sierra for years at 55-65mph with good tires. First in a 92 Explorer, then in a 96 Cherokee (and I suspect in the future with my new 4R). Good tires, 4WD, and decent driving ability = safely going faster than the rest of the yahoos.

OP, my experience with 4H is let off the gas to the recommended speed, engage, and then drive as fast as prudence warrants. Having tires that you're comfortable and familiar with helps with this tremendously.

Hi Riskijer, if you find yourself in Oregon, definitely check it out. Its beautiful.

As far as the photo, I used a Nikon D800 and a Sigma 85 f/1.4. I shot it at
1/160th
f/1.4
ISO 800

It just started to rain when I got there so the clouds provided soft light. I parked far enough away from the background trees to make sure they were out of focus. One cool thing is if you view it at full size on flickr you can see huge bouncing water drops on the hood.
