4wheel drive

I have a 2006 Sport and love everything except how the 4wheel drive works. For example this weekend I was doing a little off roading nothing hardcore and I had it in 4x4 low and the VSC switch turned off and it seems like my VSC still gets in the way of really being able to put the hammer down..

Is there any after market or any upgrade on how the 4x4 is controlled ?? I think it just needs a better control system to engage and disengage plus better control over VSC ...

Any thoughts would be appreciated

If you lock the center differential, the VSC should turn off. Or you can search for "VSC off mod" and hook up a switch to turn it off manually.

Check CJ3Flyr's signature, there is a link to A-Trac mod that is the answer to your question. Many other forum members have done it, and its on my short project list, just need to find time...

You beat me to it... Damn Tapatalk for blackberries... :)

I'm looking for something more factory made... Can I use the 4wheel drive controls from a newer model ??

Damn it I guess nobody knows.... You know the Ford guys would of had this question answered by now... :hiding:

There isn't a drop in solution from the factory to adjust the sensitivity/programming of the VSC if that's what you're asking....

Really? Even with the heavy lifting required to answer a poorly worded question?

Going by your description, you had the center diff locked (also turns vsc off but the statement can cause confusion because later modes had a dedicated vsc off switch). So, you are apparently talking about ATRAC - the pulsing of the brakes to control wheel spin - not VSC. No crime in not knowing that until you include the dig about not being able to get an answer.

If you want straight 4 wheel drive you can disconnect the big plug in the front of the brake fluid reservoir which disables all abs functions. Don't forget to plug it back in for the road.

There was a fairly recent thread where someone made a switch to do it (abs off, not just vsc). There's no mod to alter the sensitivity but a lot can be accomplished by gaining experience and familiarity with the behavior. ATRAC tends to back off with higher rpms.

Does this give any dash warning lights? If not, a switch may be in my future! I don't have too much experience with the ATRAC and VSC offroad, but so far it seems to do its job pretty well... takes a little getting used to... "clickity-click-click"! Having the ability to switch it all on and off would be nice... more flexibilty!
