4x4 light

My 4wd works but I don't get a light on the dash is this common or is there even a light a 94's? What would be a good fix for this?

if the switch on the transfer case was bad the 4wd wouldnt work at all, its the switch on the front dif that is more likely the culprit (if not the bulb)

You're assuming his truck has the ADD system, which it may not.

More info on the truck is needed from the original poster.
 
what more information do you need? on the 4x4 lever it shows it is in 4wd and it works but I do not get a light on the instrument cluster.

i didnt think they made the later 2nd gens without ADD?

look to see if your truck has manual hubs ie a dial on the front wheels that can be selected between 'lock' and 'free'. if you dont have manual hubs you have the ADD system (automatic disconnecting differential).
what have you done where you know the 4wd is engaging?
 
I do not have the manual hubs, and a friend and I were just doing some minor wheeling and he said that he saw the front tires spin.

Lol yes but this time we were all sober. I was able to climb the hill he climbed with his wrangler and he had to use 4wd also and I asked him again and he said he only saw the passenger side spin.

Unless you have a locker, that's what is going to happen in a poor traction situation. An open diff sends the power to the side with the least traction, and the other side gets none.
 
all the dash light are some goofy type where the bulb sits in a plastic holder that twist-locks into place. you might even have to order it from the dealer. before you do tho try switching it with one of the light you know works such as the battery indicator. then test to make sure the 4wd light is working and not the battery light. if the 4wd still doesnt work and the battery does, your looking at bigger problems.
 
Check your dash lights first. Think about how old those are and the fact that they're light bulbs... They burn out.

They're quite simple to replace, remove the dash that surrounds the instrument cluster, and it will expose the screws that hold the cluster in place. After removing them, the only tricky part is removing the speedometer cable. After that, there's a few easy connectors for all the other electronics. The lights have a little holder that you turn 1/4 turn to remove and you can find the lamps at any auto parts store.
 
Im sorry I dont mean to sound like an ass
but I find it kind of funny how much effort was put into letting this guy know that all he had to do was change a lightbulb.

Albeit, we werent sure if it was the diff or not.

I'm a little surprised how long this thread got, but anything to help out another 4runner owner. :)
 
i wanted to keep this thread going b/c i am having almost the same problem and i was hoping to hear something i haven't tried yet :)
