4x8 plywood/sheetrock in/on 5th gen

Need to pick up 2 4x8 sheets of wallboard. Has anyone loaded a full sheet in their 5th gen yet? Will go to the roof if I have to, but would rather slide it inside if possible. Searched and saw some older threads for older gens, what about the 5th?

Since it is about 6 feet from the back of the front seats to the back gate, I don't think you will be able to get it in. While the back gate opening is about 4 feet wide, it is less than that between the wheel wells. The wallboard would need to ride on top of the wheel wells and the back gate would need to stay open. I would put it on top.

I would recommend you talk to Ride, that's $75 bucks you could spend towards a Gobi rack... as long as you don't mind waiting a few weeks to pick up that sheet board.
 
Unless you need them in full 4x8, the easiest thing to do is rip them down the middle. I've transported 2x8 sheets of plywood (Home Depot / Lowes will gladly cut them down for you for free) and I've brought a T-Square and split drywall in the parking lot to fit them in my 4Runner as 2x8 sheets. Obviously it's more work, but not that difficult.
 
Suse the roof rack.....

I picked up 4 4x8 sheets of plywood a couple weeks ago in my 2012 4R. I put a old blanket down to cover the end caps put the plywood on there and tied it down. No problem and not one scratch.
 
+1 on the Gobi! That's one of the main reasons I got mine. I have had 4 sheets of 3/4" ply up there with no problems.

Best mod I believe I did to my 4Runner pound for pound was my Baja Utility rack.

It's a 8x12 trailer and I'd be up the creek if I didn't have it. Sold my dog pickup 5 months ago because wasn't using it enough and last month bought a fixer house. Had to tow home 36 bundles of roofing shingles 3 weeks ago trailer was crying and so was my 4runner's rear shocks. LOL
 
I fit a sheet of MDO plywood into the truck once. To make it worse I had the interior cleaned out and didn't have any of my straps with me. I recall that I extended the sliding tray out and supported the 4x8 over the wheel wells and on the top of the folded forward seats. My seat was pushed way WAY forward, and I ended up taking the strap off my work bag to hold the rear door partially open. It was a long slowish drive home.
 
One of the very best reasons to not haul crap inside the 4R is how damnably hard that carpeting material is to clean - plus the plastic is so easily marred.

I wouldn't even grace it with the word carpeting (though you did say carpeting material).

It's more like black fuzz. Hate it.:mmph:
