4xInnovations Plate Bumper Ordered

I like it! The only think that bothers me about the bumper is those darn center octagons that are for accessing the winch. Kind of a weird design that keeps holding me back from possibly buying this bumper

Couldn't you just ask him to make it without them or to modify it in some way? Pretty sure that wouldn't be a problem.

He would definitely modify the octagons if you want. It is unbelievably stout. I'll take more pictures and put together a bit of a write-up on it this weekend. It won't get painted until Monday and will be installed on Tuesday. On downside of the bumper is that there is an internal space that is created by the way it is put together that can be accessed but would be hard to paint by roller or spray. Powder coat and a dip would work more easily. That will be covered in the write up too.

hmmm.. something to consider. May have to talk to them down the road here about modifying them. Can't wait to see the finished product! :naughty:

Finally installed.....

I spent about 2 hours on Tuesday morning before work with a buffing wheel to grind all the weld residue, surface rust and imperfections out of the steel. I got it down to a very good finish since I was able to work in the maintenance shop of the manufacturing plant where I work. At that point I was able to get the entire bumper coated with an autopherotic paint. I don't think it bonded to the surface the way i was expecting due to the thickness of the metal and the ovens being able to cure it properly. The end result is that the bumper looks like it was painted with a flat or semi gloss paint. I installed it tonight. It was just a bit more than a one man job due to the weight. There were a few discoveries that I had during the process that would be useful to those that are looking at this bumper for their 4Runner. I'll pull all this together over the upcoming weekend. I'm heading down to southern ohio this Saturday to hit some trails so I'll let everyone know how it does.....

I finally got mine powdered coated black, but the shop failed to do something I requested so it will be going back to the shop to be redone. I did take a couple of pictures of it with the lights put in place. It will probably be a couple of weeks before I get it on the truck. Here are the "teaser" pics.......

What did the bumper with lights run ya?
My bumper is the original/1st bumper so I am not allowed to share the price that I worked out with 4xinnovations. I can tell you that the fog lights i chose were $40 from NAPA. The replacement turn signal lights come with the bumper. Looks like the base bumper sells for $696.

That bumper looks killer! I really like the look with the stinger and headlight hoops. Anyone know if they can modify it to fit with a body lift?

The bumper is not currently offered for use with a body lift kit and based on how it attaches to the frame I'm not sure you could adapt. I'll let you know in a few weeks. I have the bumper on and a 1" 4crawler lift sitting in my garage waiting to be installed when I have some spare time. I ordered the body lift partially because I have some rubbing on the fender with the side "wings". I was also considering spacers and bigger tires down the road, but the rubbing put me over the edge to order.

Is it only 4 bolts, two on each frame rail? There must be 4 more that I just cant see.
I would think that it would have more than that if you're gonna put a winch in there. Can we see the mounting brakets/plates?

There's a total of eight bolts with ability to install more. The picture below is from the back of the bumper prior to mounting. The two bolts that you can see when looking at the front of the bumper are right below the diagonal weld line. There is a third bolt that bots above those two for a total of three that attach to the front end of the frame. The side metal piece that sticks out with two bolt holes in it attaches to the side of the frame. There's two threaded bolt holes in the frame at that location but only one bolt is used to hold the factory bumper on so I only used one bolt there. You could also secure the bumper on the skid plate cross member if you beef it up.

Cool thanks for the info. In the future I want to run 35's and will probably upgrade my body lift to 2" to limit the amount of trimming I have to do. So I would only order a bumper that I know will work with a body lift, because a 2" gap would be really noticeable and ugly....Hopefully they can make it work with a body lift because right now the Shrockworks bumper is at the top of the list, but that one is over $1,200! I would love to save some money and get the 4Xinnovations one instead.
