I've known about them since around 2010. The problem with them in the rock crawling community is the pinion is the weakest link and has a tendency to snap/shear.So I’m browsing the gear websites, mulling over the possibilities on the next steps….. and low and behold, there’s. 5.71 option? Have I just been under a rock? I was under the impression 5.29 w as the max ratio for Toyota available?
Anyone done this by chance?
Yeah I have seen them too in a few brands. But the major reliable brands like Yukon, Motive and others don't make them for the reasons mentioned above. More teeth on the gears equals thinner teeth and less strength. I am honestly wondering how my 5.29's are going to work out as I'm having them installed this week. Will ask the shop about best oils and stuff to run so they hold up as good as can be with roughly 350 ft lbs of torque being applied to them by the motor.
