5 Stars or Tundra/Sequoia Rims?

There has been a lot of talk about rims lately and which rim do you like better? The 5 star or the Tundra/Sequoia?

Tundra/Sequoia for me. Looks more modern and comes in more color choices. I also like the fact that it's a 17" wheel.

I like the 5 star on my truck more, but on a ride like COB's i think the Tundras are a better fit.

I told the wife I wouldn't mod the 4Runner like I did my truck... but if a set of sequoia rims pops up on CL then they will definitely "appear" on my rig with new rubber.

After market rims look good, but the best looks on a truck are to upgrade to newer generation oem rims.

I agree with JohnsD90 I think it depends on what rig you have as to how the wheels look. Some look great with the Sequoia/Tundra wheels and some look better with the 5 stars. Personally, I think mine would look better with the 5 stars.

Prefer on a 3rd gen? the 5 star is one of the best looking Toyota rims ever. I found a set and quickly bought them,
however, compared to my 6 spoke, the finish on the 6 spoke goes with the
chrome bumpers/wheel well moulding/running boards better than the anodized look of the 5 star.
So they are for sale in this forums classifieds.

The new 4Runner rims are sweet too, I would like to know if they would fit on my '98? any body tried them, maybe some pics?

IMO a 16" rim gives the perfect tire to rim ratio appearance-wise for our trucks. And that paired with the classic styling of the 5 stars makes it a no brainer. I do think that bigger trucks (4th gen, tundra, etc.) look better with a 17" rim.

I put up the post, but I forgot to add my own opinion. I like the 5 stars a lot and agree they are one of the best stock rims Toyota has ever made. I would go with the Tundra though because they have the 285/70 Duratracs in D rating, while the 285/75 Duratracs are only in E rating. The FJ TRD rims are one of the top stock rims as well.

I totally dig the 16" 5 stars. I wanted a set very bad when I got my 4Runner. Yet, after 3 sets of rims, and really wanting a new style, the Tundra wheels stole the trophy quickly.

Never looked back. 4th and final set of rims.

The Sequoia rims look better for a street truck but for off roading the 16" 5 stars are a better choice with more rubber between the rocks and the rim and 17" tires generally cost more than 16".

I think LINY does just fine with the Sequoia rims.

I would say that at least 80% of the lifted suv's and trucks are running at least a 17" wheel.

16's are cheaper though.

Sequoia is my vote.

Pricier way to go for rubber, but looks way better.

Ive been hunting on ebay for a while now.

Heres a teaser pic. IMO its the best looking oem toyota truck rim.

My choice was bettween these and aftermarket. But im very pleased with my final decision.

But of those 80% how many actually leave the pavement? You still lose an inch of rubber around the rim if I wanted to stick with the 32" size that fits under my truck and if I want bigger and keep more rubber between the rim and rocks I need a lift. I've seen too much rim rash on the trails with too low a profile tire but the 17"s do look nice.

17" is the most used rim size in professional off road sports
