Signed up for T4R the 2nd of October and n 8 hours Ill be flying to San Diego to pick up my first *new* vehicle a 2013 Mag Gray TE with KDSS/NAV . Special thanks to [MENTION=47936]Maz[/MENTION], [MENTION=101975]MartyT[/MENTION] , & [MENTION=1032]NoDak[/MENTION] for the info that helped me make my mind up.

I'm trying to make this a 2 day jaunt to Austin [with a planned rest stop in Las Cruces, NM for the night]. but of course the weather isn't looking too pretty but I should be well equipped to make it back :biggrin1:

It feels like christmas eve! Don't even wan't to goto sleep right now. :biggrin2

Honk if ya see me on I-8 or I-10 :)

Hoss I don't think the weather is going to have any real affect on you. It rained today, but nothing more than a strong drizzle, and tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same.

The next strong weather isn't coming into until around Thanksgiving, and in between the only thing noteworty is some moderately strong winds coming in from the desert. However most of their bluster is going to be toward the north of San Diego County.

Your trip is basically going to consist of some unusually cold temperatures as you follow a weak storm pattern without much moisture carried in it. You may get a chance to break in the 4WD gears on some wet roads, but otherwise my guess is you'll be too busy enjoying your new rig to notice much weather.
 
Happy for you---raining here in SD and will be more of same Friday--I would give you ride from airport but my 4runner is getting the leveling done tomorrow--only 20 minute cab ride to dealer (depending on traffic) so no biggie--you might as well hit Vegas on the way home!! Congrats again. M
 
that might be something he might want to do before he picks it up with a laptop or desktop computer instead of trying to do it on a cellphone.

thats why i was asking. or maybe the dealer will let him use one of there's before he leaves.

just a thought.
 
On my MacBook in The airport in Phoenix now. I've been on messages boards for a long time and this is definitely one of the most helpful!

I'm gonna nerd out! I'm usually a Wunderground guy, but weather radar on the stock nav...definitely feeling like christmas :biggrin1: Based on those links [MENTION=1032]NoDak[/MENTION] It looks like Ill get a taste of everything from drizzle, to wind, to some frozen precip, talk about a break in period :D

On a side note, I'm doing a photo project for my son to be, and getting pictures of all the letters in his name (Jaxon) from meaningful places and all I need are the J and maybe the N. Looking for some interesting signs along the way will hopefully help break up the boredom of west texas.

Lastly, I'm thinking Las Cruces as the rest point tonight, it seems like a good midpoint but should I stop sooner or aim for El Paso?

Funny - that is the name of my middle son. Good choice. You don't see it often.
 
I've done this more than once, and can tell you it always, always takes way longer to get out of the dealership than you budget time for...count on that. That loss of time will make Las Cruces a little more than your mid way point, and it's a very peaceful and quiet area.

I made the trip in reverse and had dinner in El Paso, then stopped at the Best Western Mission Inn in Las Cruces. A little older place, but low rise, clean, and very reasonable with easy access from the 10. Plus you can park right in front of your door, which always makes me feel better. (True story, a user picture of Mission Inn on the Trip Adviser web site has a 5th Gen Silver TE parked in the lot).

On the weather I don't think we're going to get much, if any, of the rain predicted for today. What you are going to get is very cold (by our standards) that's going to follow you all the way through your trip.

The biggest issue is West Texas where may freeze your a$$ off in cold blustery wind, but fortunately that should be at your back.....:plane:

I can assist with the J......If you want to take a very minor detour, there's a place called Jalisco. I hear it's a very safe town as every carries guns.

If not, there's always, La Jolla

The T4R he was negotiating on RG, was at Frank Toyota in National City.

So Cal, Jalisco is a state not a town. It's has the very beautiful city of Guadalahara, the tourist favored Puerto Vallarta, and the largest number of American retirees in the world living outside the U.S. at Lake Chapala. Jalisco is not an area linked to the drug cartels in any way, and there are far, far more guns in Hoss' home state of Texas.
