5100 Pre-Install Question

I searched multiple sections here multiple ways but couldn’t find the answer to the below questions.

On my 2008 V8 SR5 I currently have the stock T4R shocks, 2008 FJ Springs front & rear and Daystar 1.25” front preload spacers.

I originally installed the Daystar spacers to level/delete the factory front rake and installed front & rear FJ springs to give that slight lift they offer on the 4Runner.

Notes:
-At 100k mi. currently, my factory shocks F+R need replacement
-I plan to remove the Daystar spacers now that I’m going to install the 5100s
-FJ springs & spacers installed in 2009, ~100K mi ago

My questions:
-What setting do I use on the front adjustable 5100s to match my current perfectly leveled front achieved by Daystar 1.25” preload spacers and 2008 front FJ springs?

-Do springs “wear out”? What I’m trying to solve for is, what is the potential for the FJ springs with ~10yrs/100K mi to also need replacing and I should do springs while I’m doing shocks?

Thanks in advance for any help

I’d recommend getting new springs when you get your shocks. They do “wear out” eventually.

As for what setting you should use on the 5100’s, I’m surprised you couldn’t find an answer to your question.

A guy in this thread used the 1.75 setting with FJ coils and a 1.5” daystar spacer.

I’m sure someone with actual experience with the 5100’s will chime in and point you in the direction you want to go.

I would start with new springs in the rear and see what the rake is afterward. Best way to know what to set the 5100s to

I don't know if it's much help or not.. but, when I got mine (had 155k on it) the springs and shocks were shot, it rode like an old caddie... sounds like you're looking at springs and shocks too.

Instead of sourcing parts from multiple places and/or installing used parts, I went with this: 3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Front Coilovers. I've been really happy with it.

That’s largely my point- I want to lose the spacers but keep the height/keep it level.

Ah okay, I misread your original comment. Definitely will need new springs/coils. There’s people running the 5100’s on the 0” setting with the right springs. OME seems to be a top choice amongst most here.

Good looking truck. Thanks for pointing me toward that setup!

Appreciate it.

Out of curiosity, what steered you toward KYBs?

They were on the 4R when I purchased it. I’m not sure when they were installed which is partially one of the reasons I’m going to swap them out for some 5100’s within the next month or two I hope. I’ve been considering the 6112’s too. Lots of options. I still haven’t decided on springs...

the KYB’s are great though honestly, and if my rear shocks weren’t complete sh*t already (got them with the lift, needed extended rear shocks) I wouldn’t bother changing them out till they really needed to be. But since i am unaware of the age and mileage on them, I figure replacing all 4 corners at once with shocks and springs/coils would be the best route. I really do enjoy the ride quality though, they are good shocks imo.

I have 5100s set at 0 with toytec/eibach front springs yet isn't as level than the rear.

I don’t have any experience with Toytec/Eibach products so I can’t comment much on them, but you might need to put some 1/4 (maybe 1/2) spacers in the front if you’re still experiencing a rake that is not wanted.

I’ve read there were a few people even with the 885 OME in the front they still had a little bit of a rake, but then there are reports of people having a level ride with the 885’s up front.

This is my opinion, but if you load anything heavy in the back you’ll probably want a little bit of rake, I personally wouldn’t want a reverse rake and have it noise up.

Adding some rear weight as in an offroad bumper or loading gear into the back for the trip should help bring the rear down a little. However a spacer isn't a bad idea. I originally thought about putting the 5100s up a notch, but I decided against it due to the fact that I dont want any crazy CV angles.

Yes that is what I was referring to haha having a little bit of rake isn’t bad for this exact reason. Ive thought about getting it as level as possible when I get my new setup rolling, but I don’t want reverse rake when I load the back up with my camping gear/tools/kids bike, etc.

But as far as the spacer goes, the comments I’ve seen from people that have done this seemed to have liked the ride it produced. The only thing I could recommend (and I’ve been recommended this by other users on here) is to not use any of the perches on the 5100’s with stock springs.

Bilstiens on all 4 n rear spacer

I just lifted my 4runner about a month ago. I wanted a mild lift. Bilstiens on all 4 corners, the front is set to the 3rd notch which is 1.75". In the rear I used a 1" spacer from burtmans. I used the original springs. I wish I would have used different rear springs tho. Mine are shot. they sag pretty bad when I have weight in the rear. will likely swap them out in the future. She shits pretty level right now.I like the rake look, so looking for something to lift the rear a little bit more, may look into some fj springs for the rear. Hope this helps.

You have probably already completed your install. But to chime in for future folks searching for more information.

I just installed 5100's in the rear with my OEM FJ springs. I do not have any stock measurements, but my rear was sitting with a pretty bad 4runner lean on the driver's side with it being practically 1 inch lower than the passenger side. While replacing the struts I added a 1.5 Daystar spacer only on the driver's rear and it turned out great! Rear sits level now at 22 1/8 both driver's and passenger's side (center of hub to fender).

Will be working on the fronts set at the 3rd notch this week. Will tackle the driver's front lean with a 1/4 inch Toytec spacer.
