Hi,

Just took my vehicle in for its 5K maintenance. Just to be sure I marked a tire. Sure enough they were not rotated.

What advice can you give me. I will of course complain to the dealer, but where else? How do you complain to Toyota about a dealer problem like this?

Just call up your service writer, tell him that there must have been an oversight because they forgot to rotate your tires, and ask when you can bring it in.

No need to go nuclear about a minor and easily corrected issue.

Maybe it is just an oversight, but maybe this dealer saves money by not doing the required service. How can I be sure that he did the proper inspections? If it is the dealer's policy to skimp then complaining to the dealer will not do any good for all the other owners out there that he is screwing.

Tires

I just had my 5k done this week. My service rep said it was basically a tire rotation and an inspection. Looks like they skipped 50%. I agree with the other posters about treating it as a simple mistake and asking them to correct it.

Yes, it sucks. But if you start out screaming to Toyota, you've shot your wad and you have nothing left -- you've got nowhere to go if you have to escalate the issue. Toyota isn't going to do much, if anything, anyways. All Toyota wil do is put a few demerits on their scorecard; I doubt they'll even call up the dealer.

I know you are pissed. But do you want to get it fixed and maintain your relationship with the dealer? Or do you just want to get even? Once you start *****ing to Toyota, you'll find the dealer will write you off and be even more of a pain in the backside in the future.

And all of this over, what? Rotating tires that will take them 10 minutes? Don't sweat the small stuff, because it just isn't worth it to get mad over this. Life's too short. Pick your battles.

To be honest I'd be pissed too and contact corporate Toyota.

Oversight my arse, your tires are probably wearing evenly by sight and figured you wouldn't notice or mark the tires. They have a inspection checklist thay are supposed to be using.

My time is valuable ,busy all day every day,and to go and have to get serviced twice is hogwash!

What is complaining to Toyota going to accomplish?

M1911 is using the term "oversight" for "you guys fucked up".

With tactful negotiation, the OP could end up with a free oil change from the dealer. But go ahead, take some of your "valuable" time and drop a dime to toyota and waste a half hour talking to a cs rep.

I have no doubt that the tech knowingly didn't rotate the tires. Calling it an oversight is a way of telling the tech writer that you know they didn't do that, and they knew they didn't do that, but without out-and-out calling them cheats. It is a polite shot across their bow.

As Dalton said in Road House: " I want you to be nice until it's time to not be nice."

It isn't time yet.

If you give them a chance to fix it without *****ing to Toyota, then you've put them on notice not to screw with you. If you've already *****ed at Toyota, then they'll write you off as someone they don't want to deal with. Been there, done that, and got screwed over as a result.

Give the dealer a couple strikes before you call them out.

Kind of a tough call, I would be annoyed with the situation, but I would not contact 'Toyota' about it. Yes, it is easily fixed (if you happen to live next door to the dealership). For me it is 20 minutes there, 20 minutes back, plus the time to do the work, so that about an hour out of the 'work' day. For those of us with busy lives it is not easy to fit in sometimes.

I would call the dealership, nicely point out their mistake, let them come up with whatever excuse they want to, but make sure they know how much of an inconvenience it is for you to bring it in again (if it really is one). Be polite but also be firm that you are not happy with the situation. I have found that the people will respect you for not 'whining' about a 'simple fix' but also feel sorry for the hassle they caused and you might just get something from it, like a free oil change.

Every time I have taken in my 4R for service I get an e-mail the next day with a full survey of questions and comment areas, I do not know if you get the same, could always use that to your 'release' as well.

I was on a trip far away from the US, guide company forgot to pick up a couple of guests from their resort, an hour away (next to the one we were staying at). We overheard them say......."Oh, thank God it was not the American's!" - The people arrived, late, were happy and laughing.... We all know the "American's" would have been flying off the handle. I think we all need to step back, relax, and not get worked up about everything, life is not perfect, complaining at every chance will not make it so either. :)

Thats a bummer. Ours will be going in in a couple months for the same service. As others stated, try again w/the dealer. If they balk, call Toyota directly. Once the comp service is up, I will be doing oil changes myself and highly doubt I will be back to the dealer for anything other than warranty work and a timing belt at 95K (if this motor requires).
BTW, NTB and a couple of local tire shops around here rotate free w/no appt (I have bought tires from one for a diff vehicle). Generally you can watch them work and be on your way.

Timing chain.

I'd keep a really close eye on things more complicated than tire rotation, as well. Actually, tires are something I want to start doing myself.

Hi,

I complained to the service manager and he had me bring it in for a redo of the maintenance. He also agreed to program a key I got on EBAY. Unfortunately the key did not work, but he says if I can find another he will program it for free. So I am now looking for a valet key for my SR5 (he didn't have one, too new).
