5th Gen 4Runners Coming to Expedition Overland

Popped into the XOVERLAND website to see when the next videos were going to be released and saw a couple of great looking 4Runners on the home page. See a few references to new builds but no details on there yet. Trucks look really good - looking forward to seeing some detailed build info on these. If you've seen build info somewhere, post a link to it.

Racks have been removed for the pics so I'm sure they're going to mount something they can attach rooftop tents to.

Anyone know who makes the fender flares that they have mounted up in the photo?

If you haven't seen their videos, then you need to check them out. Very well made and some really cool trips. Also some clips of the builds of their Tacomas and Landcruiser.

I was a big fan in the beginning but they grew up too fast. Clay is now fairly smug it seems and they have corporatized the show. It no longer feels about the challenge and the adventure, but "hey I'm going to document my vacation so I can get free shit"

I'll continue to support them but they're not who they were.

Yup, and I want. But Bushwacker stated on their Facebook page that they were only prototypes, and weren't sure if they would go into production. They debuted at SEMA(?) in January.

I like their videos as well, anything that motivates folks to get out and explore is a good thing to me. Now that they "upgraded" to a 4Runner it should be even better!

I can't decide what is uglier, the Wheels or the Flairs. And WTF is with the door guards....
 
Ain't opinions wunnerful? Especially the unsolicited ones? And I'm pretty sure the door guards are to protect the doors...... :peace:

Completely agree with ya, Marshal! It was initially about overlanding, and they did a pretty damned good job for their first season, but that trip to Alaska, while entertaining here and there, seemed much more about being touristy and not so much about getting offroad.

If you're gonna do an overlanding show, then show the overlanding! Don't really care about airplane tours or visiting local places on boats!

Hope they get their act together and find their path, overlanding or touring trips with 3 episodes that has a little wheelin'.

My big ***** brigade is this now. At the end of the Alaska season they kind of found their way back - I tribute that to Clay getting his ass beat by everyone on expedition portal for sucking at directing. If that's the case or not, I don't know. But now, they're going even bigger. Next season; which their trip starts like April 11th and won't air till next summer ('16) is in South America.

Why arnt they doing all the other cool stuff in the US? I know it's not some big elaborate trip but the single destination 45 minute videos were what it was built on. Clay and Scott have now turned this into a business - which is fine. But they ****ed it up for all the people that actually gave a shit about what they were doing and they're catering to the "my balls havnt dropped enough to deal with [MENTION=81573]Stifler[/MENTION] on the Internet yet" people.

I disagree, having met them in person at Overland Expo East. They were all super nice, humble, and spent 3 straight days talking to anyone and everyone for as long as people wanted to talk. I too expected them to be smug, but they weren't. At all. I'm happy they've been successful.

That's great and Im glad my experiences with him so far arnt the norm.
 
If you want to know anything about what they put on the 4runners (or any of the trucks), I am friends with the guys at Dark Horse Customs here in Bozeman that built all of the rigs. I can find out what parts were used if anyone wants me to.

I do like those flares! Can you find out more about them? I am sure few people on here would be interested.
 
Tough crowd. I really enjoy their series and want to watch more. Seem like trustworthy people who share a love for exploration except they're walking the talk in my case!

I love the bushwackers. I wish they made a set for my Toyota truck.

I did not work today so I was not near there. Tomorrow I am going there to check on some stuff for my own and will find out. Sorry about that. I work a block away so it makes it nice to go there after work and not use up gas just to drive all the way out there. Will update you then.

Ok so I stopped into Dark Horse today. Contrary to what I thought, they did not order and install the parts, they only installed everything for them. That means I cannot get a full parts list however I do have a bit of info about them.


Fender Flares: Bushwacker Pocketed style
Suspension: Icon vehicle dynamics all the way around
LightBar behind the front grill (as seen)
Hidden winch in the stock front bumper
Not sure what the rear bumper is.
That is all I can remember but Jared is pretty sure between the FaceBook page and the website they should post up something with the builds being they were in DarkHorse filming a bit a couple weeks ago.

Hope that answers something. Wish I could have gotten a bit more but like I said they only did the install so there is no invoice or anything that I could check out for the full parts list.
