So, I had one instance of the brake assist engaging and it did kind of freak me out. I was not going very fast (maybe 30-35 MPH) but traffic was bad and someone stopped short in front of me. In my case the front caught hard and it felt like the rear end actually shifted a bit to the right. I had enough room in front of me that it wasn't really necessary. I usually stay pretty far back from the driver in front of me since most are poor communicators at best. So, while it was a little startling, I am not too worried about it, especially since I am aware of it now.
What bothers me more is the extreme travel distance and softness of the brake pedal in general. On my last regular service to my dealership, which has a pretty good service dept. I brought up my concerns about the feel of the braking in general and they did something (not sure exactly what) to adjust the pedal. It felt much better, with less travel and a slightly firmer more positive feel, for a couple of weeks. Then one day I was at a red light and the pedal just gave and went down another inch or two and was essentially right back to the way it was before. It makes me wonder what they did and if there might be a way to make that adjustment permanent or not. I will probably ask them again in a couple of months when it goes back for its next regular service.
