5th Gen Calipers

After you bleed your brakes you need to turn the vehicle off and do 40 full depress and release of the brake pedal. Then turn the vehicle on and give it 2 minutes you should notice the pedal being a lot firmer now. I would do it after you get the fronts done, I also used motive and this is the worst brake booster design I have seen so far. But I was able to get the chain through a small hole under the reservoir and make it work without any special adapters. I used close to 160 ounces for all of my calipers to get a good flush in Glad to hear all went well

I just did this. And i didnt get any different results. Maybe am doing it wrong. I bleed my brakes awhile when i put on my ss lines.

This is a process that is recommended right after a brake flush on the vehicle. my pedal was "spongy" and once I done it I noticed right away my brake pedal being more firm and grabbing earlier if you will. It might vary from one person to another as brakes are very subjective but as I stated earlier I had great results and some other members also. The way I done it, turn the vehicle off. Press the brake pedal all the way in hold for a second and let go. Rinse and repeat 40 times it should take about 10 minutes. Make sure you

We got that OP fixed up with 40 sloooooow pumps with the key off of the brake pedal.

Oo ok. Thanks for the quick response. When i first stepped on it felt a click at first and then the pedal felt smooth anybody feel that ?

Looks like I'll be joining this club soon. After less than a year of swapping for brand new calipers, pads, and rotors (4th gen parts) they're already freezing up again.

I've checked the brakes twice over that time span, and the calipers were not fully retracted. I'll move the pistons back out, but over the span of a couple weeks my MPGs will drop from ~18mpg to ~15mpg for no reason. I've done just about every other MPG maintenance tip I've read on here (MAF, additives, filters, driving convervatively, etc) and it doesn't help.

This is the worst part about owning this vehicle.

Where did you you buy them? They might still be under warranty. I bought dualistic gold from autozone and when mine froze, I just swapped mine out. No charge.

should be the numbers starting with 142. I don't believe they make a 142 series 5th gen front calipers yet

Great call there. You might have saved me a lot of heartache. Got them from rockauto and looks like they have a 2 year / 24k warranty. I'll check it out.

I just bought a set from napa auto parts. It took a little digging for them to find a set, but they did.

dumb question - is slight rubbing ok when spinning the tire checking for frozen calipers?

The pads may drag a bit. In order to check for frozen calipers you really need to pull it apart.

Finished the swap tonight. Used centric rotors and calipers. Used the old pads, because really they're not old. Bled all 4 brakes with new speedbleeders (which are awesome). I can't say I've noticed any difference in stopping power, but having calipers that don't drag is a huge relief. Let's just hope it stays fixed this time.
