My wife is 7mos pregnant, so not as much camping and wheeling around here as normal. She is a soldier though, went camping with me last week out in the middle of nowhere. Was supposed to be a four nighter but she called the game after the second night. Not many women will boondock camp at all, much less while that pregnant so I cannot complain.
 
Thanks man, congrats to you as well. Yep it is the second. Another girl. I live in the estrogen ocean....

...they are now even rallying for a female dog when Turbo dies (nothing like planning for my dogs death :moping: )

I like this. My youngest (17) just started college (in engineering lol) and is playing soccer for the university too and my daughter is in her 3rd year of Nursing. It seems I am on the opposite end of most of you! Enjoy these times guys as they change so quickly you can't keep up and what you do now with them will shape them forever.
 
Congrats Guys! Young Mans game, glad those days are behind me now mine are almost all growed up.... Teenagers are a whole other game.
Enjoy the youngsters (especially when they start sleeping through the night)
 
Ha yeah, I've watched that video before. I would have liked to have seen the outcome after their little street race.

That's the only sport I watch on TV. What position does she play?

He will be growing up in a materialistic world where the economy is on the verge of collapse. Scary.
 
So my daughter likes to play this game that when I get out of my seat she sits in it and makes me sit on her. She is 30#, I am 190#. I am so sick of the game because she will not move unless I whoop her ass or sit on her. But when I sit on her it hurts (obviously) so either way she is not gaining anything. I do not understand kid logic :wtf:

This one is easy. Wants vs needs is what we practice in our house. And I take her camping off the grid where she is learning to conserve what we have because we cannot just "go to the store". Nothing quite like not having power, running water, etc to teach you how nice it is to have it. She is much different than her bratty ass cousins that think that their mother (and everyone else) owes them whatever they want.
 
I like random topic threads! Although kids is wayyy down the road for me (let me get out of college first...) so I'm feeling left out.

Change of topic though, my lift should be going on in the next 2-3 weeks. I am pumped! Just curious, anyone miss the soft/smooth ride of the stock T4R? I'm not having second thoughts, just wondering what to expect after lift. I've never owned a lifted vehicle before.

Both of my children (boy 17, girl 21) play soccer at the college level. The boy is starting his BSME program off with a bang with a 99% on his first calculus test. The girl (woman?!!!) is in her 3rd year of her BSN program.

What I meant by my comment is:
Take for example Brock. He is taking his youngsters camping a lot. This is an education very few will get on the outdoors, packing skills, travelling and many other things. When mine were young on Saturday afternoons I would take the boy out to a logging operation and show him feller bunchers or skidders and loaders, or take him to a construction site and show him the tower cranes and Dozers. I not only would show him but also explain the equipment to him. I even took him on a few machiine start ups I needed to observe and he learned about instrumentation and drawbar pulls and the difference between it and tractive effort lol. As he got older he retained that knowledge and even though he spent most of his time training and playing sports we would still have lots of conversations about machines and we still do. My daughter caught the nursing bug from my wife and visits to her work when she was little. We did not plan it at all but as time went on you could see what was happening.

Here are a few words of advice:
Keep your kids in public schools but DO NOT let the schools raise them. The discipline, love, compassion and life skills should come from home. The reading and math should come from school and be augmented by you. The reason I said public schools is the incredible social interaction your child will have with other kids. I mean, where else could you take your kid and put him in an environment with all of the future doctors, lawyers, engineers, business owners, politicians, trash men, felons, drug addicts, ditch diggers and McDonald's employees in one room? Private schools will only cater to a few of those industries whereas public schools cater to them all lol. Teach your children to interact with all levels of intelligence and ignorance and they will be just fine.

Final thing: The number one rule we taught our kids is this: "Life is not fair. Either figure out how YOU can even the playing field or live with the results as they stand." Both kids now realize the importance of this rule and practice it daily as we do. Example: So you got a bad grade and Sally got a good grade? Study harder and you will get a good grade too. Example: So the guy got by you and scored the winning goal? Train more to get quicker and stronger. It does not take long to teach your children they are in control of their own destiny. What that is depends on how much effort they are willing to expend.

You must be a proud PAPA.
I my self, fell into health care by chance and it's one of the fastest growing industries. Especially if your daughter can pick up any computer related experience = GOLDEN. Often referred to as "Informaticist" and is gaurentedd a job for the next 20 years. I can go into more detail if you care to.

I Quoted the public school part of what you said because that is a huge debate in our house. My wife went to private school and raves about it, I went to public school and thought it was fine. This will be a large bridge to cross when the time comes, both logically and financially - $hit ain't cheap :).

I love my girls with all my heart but some nights, SOME NIGHTS, I just huddle together on the deck with the Beagle Boys- Charlie, Eddie, and Floyd-and we discuss what the hell happened to cause us to lose complete control over the household.

You need that support now! :lol:
 
Nice thread Brock and congrats on the 2nd one. I'm in the same boat as you Dannyllama (congrats on your first), I'm a bit worried about how my 18 month son will grow up in this world/society, not to mention the 2nd kid coming in May. I was lucky to grow up in a poor immigrant family that instilled hard work in order to survive, literally, we were boat refugees from vietnam and wouldn't be alive if we didn't fight to survive and the grace of the US (I just want to add that I think the US is the best damn country on this planet. Despite all our problems, I would still rather live in the US than any other country. All the hate from other countries is because they are jealous). I remember taking a shower from a faucet in the cold dark basement of a building that had one light bulb and 1 faucet from the ground, and I could hear the rats running around in the basement, and this was in the US! I knew at that point I did not want to be poor and I worked hard to get where I'm at today. So being poor was a blessing in disguise. Of course I don't want my kids to grow up poor, and I debated how to raise them...I even thought of pretending to be poor so they learn the value of money and hard work that way, since that was the only way I know of because that's how I learned. But that wasn't going to work because it's kinda hard to live a lie. But the advice everyone is giving is much appreciated, good stuff!
