5th Gen Fender Mod

I Searched and came up empty on Fender Mod to fix 285/70/R17 tire rub in Trail. All seem to refer to the Mod but no actual post on how it's done that I can see. Can it be done without trimming? Industrial heat gun to re-mold plastic in high places? Any help would be great. Thanks

Max + caster to bring wheel forward and liner mod= no rubbing with 33's like your 285/70/17's . No need to cut anything or heat gun til you go bigger then that.

I've looked at that danged pictorial countless times on how to move the fenders and I can never make heads or tails about what's being moved or how.

This will have the side benefit of improved steering stability. My SR5 wandered a bit until I did this. Get the caster to at least +4*.

I was in that same boat for a while too. Once you get down there and see the room for the fender liner to move forward, and away from the tires, you'll understand how you can make new holes and tighten the bolts to keep it there. Props to [MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] for this because it's an awesome trick

Mine rub with Nitto TerraG is minimal and only at the plastic piece that covers mud flap from the front? What's behind that? Any ideas on how to move or reshape that piece?

SR5 Fender Mod photos

Did this mod for my 2011 SR5 and thought I'd share some pics since it looks a little different than the TE.

I happened to have my bumper off already so you can see the top side.

After pushing the fender forward 3/4" the front 'inner' corner seemed to be pulled in slightly. To counter this I moved the two screws that line up off the corner a bit.

After moving the fender forward you see part of the outer trim hangs over a bit. I cut it off with my dremmel.

Additional or alternative way to mod the fender liner?

Hey all, new poster, so I can't start a new thread, but maybe it should be added to this one anyway?

I did the "traditional" fender liner mod on a 5th gen Limited (2016) but to make a long story short, I still got rubbing after swapping my factory 20" wheels with 20x8.5's Black Rhino's with OEM ET15 offset and adding Hankook Dynapro 275/55/20's.

I found a solution that may work well with or in place of to the fender liner mod described already in the forum. It may even be easier.

Should I post here or ask the moderators for the ability to start a new thread?

Killer video. I had put the same KO2s in the same 275/70/17 size you have about a month and a half ago and had zero rubbing. Over the weekend I got a sweet deal on some used ATX Slot wheels in a 17 x 9 and switched the tires over. Definitely had rubbing. Took all the mud flaps and did the bumper trim but wanted to find out how to easily do the fender move and found your post. Glad I did! I'll get on it first thing tomorrow. Thanks!

[MENTION=171057]Angonemoto[/MENTION], hey, another Chicagoan here. I see this post and then I see, "If your front mudflaps are still on you aren't modding hard enough" in your signature. Sarcasm? Or did adjusting them not work out so well for you?

I just replaced my trail wheels with TRD Pro wheels with my existing 275/70r17 K02s and now I rub! This is before my spidertrax spacers even go on. Just trying to sort through what works/didn't work for folks with a similar build.

I did get rubbing off road

Hi there,
With my 1.25 spacers, the het mod on the flaps and the big cleats on the stock size Wranglers I got some initial rubbing at full lock pulling out of the garage and in parking lot turns. I didn't mind that much, but in the more rougher terrain when the suspension articulated it rubbed more. I pulled them off after that. I am sure you can manipulate the flaps to work but I still think there will be minor rubbing when off road or crawling minor obstacles.

Remember, I had the liner repositioned and the bumper trimmed as well.
