This is my first 'build thread' so go easy on me if its not the best write up. Also, the pics I took were vertical but when I uploaded them here, it rotated them. I'm not sure how to get them back to the way I took them, sorry for the sore necks.
I've searched around and have seen a handful of different custom builds for where people have mounted their fire extinguishers. I liked some but decided to go my own route and put it in the storage area where the jack and jack tools are. The jack remained in place but the tools now rest underneath the sliding tray.
List of items used:
2.5lb Amerex ABC fire extinguisher w/bracket
6" x 16ga x 18" plain sheet metal
Angle grinder
Drill
Pack of bolts, nuts, washers
I started by making a template out of cardboard to get the relative size to trim the sheet metal down to as well as align the holes for both mounting the sheet metal to the car (using pre-existing holes) as well as the fire extinguisher bracket to the sheet metal.
Then trimmed the sheet metal down to size and made sure the holes still aligned. For the bottom section, since it reached all the way to the bottom, I simply cut two notches and bent the middle section making it pressure fit over the metal on the car. It should hold fine since the top is secured and there is no movement in it. I made sure it fit first, then removed it to add the bracket to the sheet metal. Once that was together, I reinstalled the sheet metal back into the car. Word to the wise...be very careful with tools in that space. If you drop one, it my be gone for a while. Thankfully I had an extendable magnet to get the wrench I dropped.
Once everything was secured, it did take a little finagling to get the actual extinguisher in there. The nozzle was directly hitting another section of the frame. Thankfully the bracket was flexible enough to put the nozzle in first, then angle the extinguisher on the mount. Once I got it in and secured, I removed and replaced a handful of times. It was 10x easier after the first time and extremely quick to get out if needed.
Once it was all mounted, the cover fit perfectly back on. Super happy with how it turned out! Hope this helps anyone still looking for a solution!
