5th gen forever?

I just had a random thought... Although most of us continue to wait for a 6th gen, with the popularity of the 5th gens what if Toyota decides keep the same look with updates here and there? Kinda like jeeps, they've maintained the same iconic look with just updates to modernize it. Lets face it, the Tundra has remained mostly unchanged, except for a minor update, for 12 years now and it still sells well. Could the same thing happen with the 4Runner?

And I don't wanna hear "oh the guy at the dealership told me 6th gen next year" cause that next year should've been like 3 years ago lol If you have info, post a source.

The longer the 5th gen continues, the better. I fear the next gen will eliminate a lot of the simplicity and other things we love (and take for granted) about this vehicle.

I have been told by a reputable sauce that Toyota is skipping the 6th gen and will release the 7th gen in 2024 as a 40th anniversary edition*

*It will look very familiar to 5th gen owners

I have a weird feeling that people on this forum waiting for the 6th gen, are the minority.

I have to agree. I think most are here because they already own a T4R or are looking to buy right NOW. A lot of members are on their 2nd or 3rd 4runner. I myself had a 1st Gen, (wish I never sold it) still have my 3rd Gen and am quite happy with my 5th Gen. All of my mine are 12 years apart, 87,99,2011, so about 2023 I'll be looking a little harder. I just can't justify a new car that quickly and it's nice not having payments for the next 5-6 years.

I'll look at a 6th Gen if or when they come out, but seriously could care less if it ever does.

Although it won't hurt my feelings if they redo the 5th Gen front end so it doesn't look like crying eyes, If I bought one new today I would have to go back to the 2010-2012 look........

Just watch, the 6th gen will go the way of the Pathfinder and be a unibody design. Newer doesn't always mean better.

perhaps, I just seem to remember seeing a lot of posts inquiring about it. I for one am happy with my 5th gen.

I chose the 4runner for the body on frame design. Although a little dated, it has an old school charm and I love it.

I'm with you on this. I say at least 50% chance the 6th gen has better fuel economy, and worse everything else.

4runner won't go unibody or make compromises... Toyota isn't stupid and already has a 4runner-sized unibody SUV. The only proof we've actually seen is the industry's willingness to continue selling legit BOF trucks. We've seen new versions of the Tacoma, Jeep Wrangler, big-three's full-size pickups, and are expecting additional BOF trucks soon (Bronco, Ranger, whatever mid-size RAM is building). There's plenty of other things in the world to get upset about, it's best to avoid spending your mental capacity imagining new and unfounded things just to get upset over.

For me, the only way I buy a 6th gen is if there's a PHEV version with lifetime gas savings that would break even with the value I'd lose on a trade-in. Otherwise, the 5th gen will be my DD for 10 years before going on winter/errand/camping duty and I'll pick up an electric car for dd'ing in 2026 :)

I buy the last year model of a body style........because I saw what was coming as the ''new and improved'' Toyota and didn't like it. I bought the last straight axle Pick-up in the 1st Gen and the last 1st Gen 4Runner and not another until the 16 4Runner. I thought it was going to be the last before an update.....that still hasn't come! If there is a 6th and it is uni-body, I might get another 5th Gen before they are gone!:gun4:

My gen 5 wants are very nitpicky...

-blindspot monitoring
-power liftgate
-adaptive cruise control

... In that order of importance, non of which would stop me from buying 2 more 4runners beyond this should Toyota never add any of these features lol.

A V8 would be nice but I don't drive like I used to so it doesn't bother me the way it would have 5 years ago.
