5th Gen Forum Problem

Here's some random thoughts on a Monday morning....

You want to see a forum fail?
Over moderate it. Take all the fun out of visiting the forum.

This isn't a library, it's a forum and suppose to be interactive.

You can't protect everyone's feelings, and shouldn't be required to.
Life can be honest, deal with it.

You aren't that important, get over yourself.

Thanks, have a great week.

Funny how everyone keeps saying Bro crowd and the Pro owners need to lighten up. How about oh i dont know, the people inciting shit get over yourselves as well....crazy shit I know. Everyone needs to ligjt the **** up

You don't like the Pro? Cool don't post in those threads. I don't like the Trail Premium with KDSS but you don't see me digging into those owners asses.

Site is fun and I enjoy a level of immaturity from time to time but damn there are some crazy mother ****ers on here that argue just for the sake of stirring shit up. Reminds me of this bat shit crazy girl I used to **** with before getting married.

Once we honestly recognize what the real problem really is, I think adults who somehow managed to cobble together 40k for a truck can self police ourselves to handle most issues.

At this point we just need to let it be that a very few PRO owners believe they have the Shelby version of the 4R. The rest of us already know it's a silly belief but we are doing too much internal harm with all the ProBros, etc. slaps.

As for the forum structure, yes it can be better but as Greg and Jeff and others have done, nobody is stoping anybody from putting together better information and links for the benefit of all. Click over to the FJ forum to see how they nicely organized their technical mod threads.

As mentioned before, I mostly agreed with all said but I hope that over moderation is not the end result.

I totally agree. It would be nice though if someone who was reading threads here daily had the ability to say "Hmmmm, this thread started fine but has devolved into a name calling cluster. Let's post a warning or shut it down." Jesse used to do that to great effect. I said sorry more than once....

That's the moderation level. Not enough to take the fun out of it but enough to keep it from turning into a car wreck where everyone has to drive by, slow down and comment on what happened.

Spot on !

Pro crowd just needs to lighten up. You have a 4Runner, nothing more nothing less. I love the look of the Pro (wouldn't ever buy one but I dig it)

I think LawnDart would be a good candidate for ProBro mentor-ship.... all Pro owners must go through a 3 day crash course in sensitivity management with him before being able to post. LOL

I will admit it is fun to watch them get all worked up though.

:fishing: for pro owners again I see... I see what you did there .....hehe :pop2: let the game of thrones begin ..... Again .....

Let's get some things out in the open shall we?

Let's invite some people to the conversation first: Are you out there admin momo.75 ChildrenOfBodom JWaldz? If you are then here is the issue, explained by a guy who has been here for awhile and has read most of the posts.

The problem:
Over the past several months the level of animosity has increased between some members in the 5th gen sub forum. Sure, we all know that compared to other life problems this is not even a blip on the radar but for some, especially those with thin skin, no knowledge of forum banter, no sense of humor guys and those who have delicate feelings but these guys get mad. When people get mad they type things they shouldn't and when they do other people type things they shouldn't and it turns into a pissing contest. I will be the first to admit that I personally have not done anything to help matters. My only saving grace is I treat everyone equally. No matter what you own or who you are if you type an opinion and state it as fact or you type a rumor or myth and swear by it and I happen to know it's false then I will respond.

Many posts here are made in jest or are sarcastic. Unfortunately there is no funny or sarcasm font so many get the wrong idea.

Also there have been harsh and vindictive posts made by people no matter what thy own or who they are. That's wrong everywhere. This needs to stop.

Another problem is, since the 5th gen sales keep going up, is we have many more noobs coming here and asking questions that have been answered 100 times. A simple search would give them the answer but they don't. People tell them to search, others jump on the people who are saying to search and it turns into a threadmess.

The solution:
We can blame it on newbies, blame it on people who buy a certain trim level or blame it on the old guys (me) as the problem. The truth is it is none of the above! Sure, it would be better if the new guys searched, the old guys were more tolerant and the TRD PRO guys realized they only have a special edition 4Runner instead of the most coolest vehicle ever produced lol. In reality all the above would only be part of the solution.

The rest of the solution falls squarely on the shoulders of admin and the moderators. Even the most utopian place on earth needs law enforcement. Shoot, Mayberry even needed Andy every now and then!

There needs to be a moderator for this sub forum. In addition to everyone being a bit nicer the moderator will keep the peace.

Why don't we have one yet after Jesse1983 left? You guys tell me. I have personally sent a few pm's to admin asking for one. I know several others that have do this too.

A moderator would be able to merge those newbie question threads into existing threads on the same topic.

A moderator would step in and say "Cool It" before the thread turned nuclear and people got hurt feelings.

A moderator could move those annoying threads that shouldn't be here in the first place.

Bottom line: We all (especially me) could be nicer and moore respectful and tolerant. With that said we are still human and have those pesky things called emotions. The best intentions would eventually lead to anarchy without some type of offical peacekeeper. Anyway this is what I think. Thanks for reading.

As a complete NOOB to this forum…a suggestion I’ve seen work well on another forum: Green font for comments meant to be sarcastic.

General opinion on what I’ve seen so far on this forum? I like it! Being a new 4Runner owner, there isn’t much I can contribute to the Forum. Problems I see? Fewer than many other forums I’ve visited.

You don't like the Pro?

I'm at a complete loss as to how many times and different ways it can be again said so that even the dumbest and thickest of minds would finally understand such a simple concept as NOBODY DONT LIKE DA PRO!

STOP repeating this stupid lie!

Maybe we just don't have much to complain about, since we all have the most reliable vehicles on the planet. (I heard the TRDBro is even reliable)

:boxing:

Green font for comments meant to be sarcastic.

Noooooooo. That would be like the joke you have to explain to your wife. Automatically rendered pointless. If you don't get sarcasm, move along, nothing to see here.

I have a question: How does one become a Mod? Does he/she volunteer? Do the current Forum Mods/Admin reach out? Serious question.

As for my input on Our New Moderator; I only hope he/she has the cajones, sense of humor, and authority, to de-ban Stifler . I know he still lurks, and I think he has matured during his Time Out.

Nice thread Greg. :drama:

And like many other threads... this one has already started the way of the others. It's not about about who likes what.... we ALL like 4Runners or we wouldn't be here... apart from the occasional trolls.

Enough with the TRD Bro comments. Stop dog piling on. We don't make fun of the other models, do we? Now granted at the same time some people do need to have thicker skin.... But.... there are douchebag owners in every model.

We all like the Pro, we all like the SR5, we all like the Trail and Limited. If we CHOOSE not to spend our hard earned money on Inferno, or a low hanging front fascia, or push to start... that's our choice. The problem lies in how you tell someone you don't care for a particular feature. For example... I don't prefer the tall skinny Limited tires and their 20" wheels. But I'm not going to seek out all Limited owners and tell them their truck looks like sh!t, or post in every thread referencing Limiteds. I don't care that much.... I bought my truck because I like it.

Part of the issue here is common decency. If you don't like something, or someone's truck, how about making a positive contribution such as a solution (or just keep your pie hole shut). Instead of saying something looks like sh!t, say "I don't prefer that look but, I like____". You get your point across, but while still offering some sort of positive contribution. If you aren't capable of saying something positive, skip the thread.... This is how people who are new to the forum get offended and call everyone a d!ckhead.

I could give two sh!ts less what someone thinks about my truck. I'm sure some people think it's a purple people eating baby killer or whatever..... I like it. My husband hates it.... good for him, that's why he drives a cute little turbocharged sports car. That's his choice.

On the Sarcasm.... it's going to happen. If you are easily offended by such, maybe this forum is not the place for you.

:deadhorse:

Agree with CJ. I like sarcasm and eye-poking as much as anyone, but this TRD-poking has run its course and has become tedious and tiresome.

Maybe we could trade DAGNABIT in and resurrect Stifler ?

meh... I dont think it has anything to do with like and dislike of a particular model. I like them all with the exception of the limited exterior. The problem is the Pro lended itself to a new type of owner. A few of them get it and have com into this forum knowing what they bought and why. Its the ones that thought they bought some sort of rainbow farting unicorn and when they find out the contrary they get all bent out of shape. I mean seriously. I referenced @Lawdart a few times... do you see anyone messing with him? No. Why? Because he gets it and plays along.... aka has fun. The ones that keep getting screwed with are the ones that just cna't grasp that their Pro is a 4runner with a couple cool parts (I do like that grill). If they would just join the community and stop creating "Pro" threads unless it pertained only to the PRO I think they would find this place is great. My 2cents..... I'm sure it will bring the butthurt once again

Its all fun and games until someone looses an eye.

Whenever a new version of any model comes out, you get new people. Then instead of chilling, the 10 posts a day crowd feels the need to piss on the fire hydrants again. Happens in every forum I've ever been on. It'll die down once the TRD Pro is less of a novelty.
