5th Gen Forum Problem

I respect the people that have been on here for years. I have/will learn from your mistakes, learn about recalls etc and read your build threads to make my rig what I want it to be, thank you for that!

I bought a TRDP because it's the rig I like as well as I am sure you did the same on your end. Is mine the best T4R? Hardly, but for now until my warranty is up or my suspension falls out, I am going to drive the piss out of it the way it is.

We all drive T4R's and for those that really love them, stick around.....you will need help soon and here is where you need to come for that insight, so keep that in mind. :grouphug:

That's it boys....the f'in jig is up....

I think we're actually doing pretty good around here..., hell, over on Mud, every thread desolves into sodomy.....at least we're one or two notches above that here...

We must not be reading the same subforum.

The 100 guys seem downright gentlemanly. And they get the same 5 questions over and over too...

Let's wrap this thread up shall we? If anyone remembers the OP I did I specifically invited the admin and several mods. You should all know the reasoning by now right? Well in the 24 hours or so since I started this this thread you would think someone would check in. Where are you guys and what's your opinion? We have heard from noobs, crotchety old timers, TRD Pro owners and people who don't even own a 5th gen 4Runner. No mods or admin though....

Excellent idea. I see the irony of your request; only a Moderator or Administrator can can officially wrap it. Now we wait. And wait.

I have a question: How does one become a Mod? Does he/she volunteer? Do the current Forum Mods/Admin reach out? Serious question.

1engineer

Greg, so do you know the answer to my question?

I think the admins/Mods are staying away until DAGNABIT and Inferno1 stop acting like retards. Just sayin'

Careful what you wish for... I too have seen forums ruined by moderation. Started out with too little, and people *****ed. Went to too much, and people *****ed. They quit modding at all, and people *****ed. They finally just got sick of all the *****ing and shut it down.

As for the Pro crowd, many are young... they'll get bored with it soon and move on to the next latest and greatest fad. Who knows, maybe there'll even be a day when someone can say they own a TRD Pro and not ellicit an eyeroll...

But they're not even really the problem. I mean, the Pro doesn't even have a sunroof, but at least it's got a transfer case! Yeah, I'm calling out those 2wd guys. They're the ones who are the real nuisance around here!

Seriously though, I'm just posting in this thread to get my trophy for participating.

Oh, and I ain't using no green font. Ya'll gonna have to figure out what's sarcastic and what isn't on yer own!

Lets be honest here. This forum is organized like a 2005 video game forum. The search function is trash and even when it does work you find 10001 page of comments %99 of which are garbage and you dont know who to trust. When I first joined the 5th gen section of april 2015 I was simply overwhelmed. You will never be able to reasonably ask people to read thousands of pages of comments to choose a lift, esp when it's just for looks. Ultimately it's our responsibility to help these people find reliable info quick without posting and completely or continues to deal with the new owner questions.

The FAQs need to be cleaned up. A lot of them are obsolete or the pics link to 404s. I understand that many of the OGs of the forum put a ton of work into stickys and such in 2011 but stuff has changed in 4 years.

So heres what happens at the end of the day with the current set up and culture of this forum: most people come here, try to figure things out on their own, get overwhelmed, ask a question, get berated for not searching and being a noob, then leave while saying 'what a bunch of a$$wipes'. So the core group of people get to drive off the noobs and 'clean up their forum' but it does not build a community at all. Turning this place into a huge circlejerk with no new thoughts or insight.

As to people being too emotional or sh!t talking eachother I think it boils down to the fact that peoples egos get linked with the forum. =D

:ak472:

pretty much hit the nail on the head... Searching finds inconclusive results and post questions leads to getting your ass handed to you. I pretty much gave up looking for info on this forum and will just figure it out myself.

I can't help wasting time reading the train wrecks that are the new post though.

1engineer, I started reading this thread because I knew you started it without green font. I keep coming back because of the green font.

The level and sophistication of the ball busting here is just as important to me as the real info that can be found.

Do we have "ignore" here? I didn't bother to search. So use it. Or just scroll past the posts that are made by folks who incite you. Big effen deal.

I know I can find (search) anything I want to know about my 4Runner here. I also know the threads that go for pages in one day are going to be the most entertaining. I log on almost every day. I don't have questions about my 4Runner every day.

I read the first two pages, been sitting on the toilet for too long and my legs are going numb...but I want to point out that we had a non-official admin a while back, eddiebxxx (forgot how many x's). He was a super nice guy who responded very fast to newb questions. I don't know what happened to him but this forum needs him. I hope everything is okay with the guy. Doesn't seem like he would leave without saying goodbye.

I gotta chime in, and please feel free to skip as I am new here. I was co founder of a club for a certain make and our forum started up around 2002. Had a great group of people on there, made a lot of life-long friends and could break eachother's balls non-stop without whining. But fast forward to today and I am nowhere to be found on that board because of all of the whiny, PC horseshit that seems to come with any club's growth.

Newbies gotta show respect. When they don't, I say no holds barred.
