Ok, I ran the test:

1. I drove the tank on my 2016 TRDP to empty; (I know I know)
2. I poured in 1 gallon of fuel;
3. I drove 1.3 miles to the nearest fuel station; &
4. I filled the tank until fuel poured out the top & the pump read 24.003 gallons

Conclusion: A 2016 T4R holds almost precisely 25 gallons.

Evap controls are important to keep the air clean. We all have some interest there.

Draining the tank to empty is bad. Topping it off is bad. Negative replies to your post are a warning to others who might not realize that they could damage their vehicle by following in your steps.

Going through my records shows the low fuel light has come on as low as a 19.6 gallon fill up. It could be an outlier. The most gas I’ve put in the tank is 21.019 gals. I’ve gone 475 miles on a single tank and 6 times I’ve been over 449 miles. A couple of those times the light did not come on. Those were most likely wind aided legs.

Regular 87 here. I filled with premium 4 times on a trip once. I make the same trip 10-15 times a year. It seems wind, air temp ( tire pressure?), and gas formulation (winter vs. summer I guess) are the biggest factors on my gas mileage. I could not isolate octane as a factor at all.

This thread is definitely a good example of the over enthusiastic nature of this forum. I love my 4 Runner but I can't imagine owning more than 8-10 years max. I never run out of fuel, but beyond that the fuel level don't cross my mind.

Do yourself a favor and keep from doing a wallet flush in the future.
I'm going to be as gentle as possible here....
If you only fill your fuel tank, hose and evaporator one time as you mentioned, you may not have any issues.
If you continue to fill your tank past the second shut off of the nozzle, you are begging to ruin your canister and end up draining your wallet.

We all care about our beloved T4R's, and that's why you are getting ribbed.
That's some peoples way of warning you and others not to do what you did here on your initial posting.

23 gals.... squeezing in another 1, 1.5 or 2 gals is not worth the cost brother.

Same thing happened to me with my Rav4. No issues thus far. I'm sure the evap system isn't so fragile a single incident knocks it out, but a steady diet of gasoline can't be good for it.

If you're referring to the "Cruising Range" indicator, they left a lot of cushion on it. I believe when that hits 0, you still should have about 3 gallons of gas left.

Based on my fill up experiences (to the first click on a pump only), the light comes on around 4 gallons left (19 fill up) and the read out hits 0 with around 3 gallons left (20 fill up).

I assume this is because there's a bunch of people out there who refuses to fill up until the last second and will drive it until they're out of gas if it actually ran out at 0.

That's about what I experience with mine also...and I totally agree that some will run it to empty if it was exactly accurate.

In fact, there was an episode of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" that I watched as a kid where his Japanese car ran out of gas at exactly "E" and he complained that an American car would go below "E". LOL

Mine shows 1 mile at 3 gallons. I just reset the mileage button and make sure I don't go over about 40 miles additional.

My practice also! You know you have at least 3 gallons, and get at least 15mpg, so 40 is a nice conservative estimate that'll get you to a gas station.
