It takes about 4 years to do a new vehicle design, so that covers anytime between next year and 2020 or so ...
 
It got a significant upgrade in exterior looks, front end and interior looks in 2014, not sure when a total remodel will happen. IMO the 2014+ is MUCH nicer than the 2010-2013 Lets hope they don't make it all round and bubbly when they produce the 6th gen.

I probably get that note from the dealer a couple times a year. As I'm sure you know it's just a sales tactic. Bottom line for them is they make money on both ends even tho my dealer makes it sound like he's in desperate need of my used 4runner, which I'm sure would get listed for at least 5k over what they'd give me.
Side note: Everytime I go there for a service I sure do see alot of used Jeeps on the lot way over priced.

Used 5th gen 4Runners are tough to find these days. I just went through this about 4 months ago. I desperately wanted a used Pro or Off Road, only found one within a 50 mile radius of me (this is obviously relevant to location) and they were asking damn near what a new one ran. I saw no point in buying used then, given i could have a fresh warranty and better interest rate on a new rig. My point is, they may make you a somewhat enticing offer, but that truck is getting marked up quite a bit on resale. Dealers know how to get their money, thats for sure. I say keep yours until the new model releases. That's my plan.

Oh, and i ended up buying a '17 ORP. End of story.
 
I would be very surprised if a new gen 4Runner comes out in 2021 since the 2020 was a "mid-cycle" refresh. Quotes are because it really is the second mid-cycle refresh, the first one being 2014.

Perhaps they had so many issues with the transmission and performance at high altitude on the 3rd gen Tacoma in 2016 that they are doing extra testing on the 4Runner. Also, lots of complaints about the 3.5 liter V6 on the Taco, so maybe the engine will be different or at least have better performance.
