Traveling with my wife and kids from CT to Virginia then to Tennessee to visit family. As we were traveling on I81 south in Hometown PA at approximately 11am on 12/26 it started to light mist. The temp on the dash read 32 degrees outside and there was a freezing rain advisory. Checking the Radar there was spotty ice but in motion in all disappeared.
As we came up a hill and around a corner we saw the first car off the road. Then there were quite a few off on both sides north and south bound. I watched an F 150 heading southbound sliding completely sideways trying to stop. As we came upon a vehicle on its roof I reliezed it was a 5th gen 4 runner as it had the newest style grill. The windshield was smashed out and it looked as though a roof airbag had deployed. I saw a person inside knocking out pieces of glass from the broken windshield. This must have just happened as a few cars were parked along the side of the highway and people were running to the aid of the 4runner. All this ice happened almost immediately without much warning.
So If you were driving on I81 yesterday in PAI hope you and your family are all OK.
