5th gen shopping

Looking for advice from current owner's.
I'm shopping for a 5th gen and my research says this is a good deal, but I wanted insight from current owners.

2014 sr5 premium (2WD)
leather
heated seats
3rd row (yes I know I lose storage capacity)
front end is wrapped in protective film
previous lease return with documented 5K, 10K, 15K, etc. maintenance.
33,500 miles

it's clean from everything I can tell.

asking $29.5K, but down to $27.9K
can't find another in Texas with similar miles for under 30K

thoughts?

Good deal...

Sounds like a good deal. I bought a 2011 Trail last year for about the same price and with more miles. 4Runner's hold their value, as I'm sure you've seen researching and shopping for pre-owned ones. I guess just ask questions about what kind of use it got. Daily driver or used for back country fun. It's a 2015 so I'm sure you still have a solid manufacturer warranty on it.
 
putting my flame suit on as I'm sure i'll infuriate a few people here, but don't really need 4WD. I get it, why buy a 4runner if you're not going off road.

don't really care for the look nor the FWD of the Highlander. and yes, I can get an AWD version, but it's still not the same.

wanted an SUV with space that I don't have to worry about banging it up. and I know the 3rd row takes up space, but at least I'd have the option to remove them and level out the back as others have.

loved the grand Cherokee's, but not their reliability.

the 4runner is large, love the truck like drive (but don't need a truck).
it's my wife and two dogs and I don't like CUV's.

if you shop the market like I have, there's not much else out there.
considered the Ridgeline, but very little back seat space.

and lastly I don't care much for domestic vehicles. so 4runner is really the only option.
 
it's between the one I mentioned and another 2014 sr5 non-premium

few scratches and blemishes on the paint.
no 3rd row 2WD
certified used Toyota
25.5K

super low price, but IMO the first one I mentioned is in better condition cosmetically. I have a 2006 350Z w/ 125,000 miles that has fewer blemishes on the paint.

so the hang-up is, is it worth spending 2-2.5K more to get a premium over an sr5? thinking the value will hold more on the premium.
 
Someone can feel free to correct me, but if it's an SR5, it'll be softex, not leather unless someone did the a swap. Not sure if that matters to you at all. I like my softex.


Just getting back to what was previously mentioned. Are you really THAT sure you want a 2wd 4runner? There are soooo many better options out there. You are taking all of the disadvantages of the 4R with about none of the advantages, IMO.

To each their own, but I'd expect a 2wd to be cheaper. They don't hold their value as well.
 
with dogs, get the Softex. in my opinion.

actually, with anything get Softex.

and, personally, i don't think resale for a 4wd is going to be all that much more here in TX. most 4Rs are sold to college girls or soccer moms. from what i've seen, at least.
 
Do you get snow in your area?

My 2015 SR5 w/ 3rd row spends 99.9999% on pavement. Do I need 4wd all the time? NO.

Would I rather have it than not? Yes!

If you get snow in your area, and a lot of it, you will be kicking yourself in the butt wishing you had a 4wd.

EDIT: Just saw you are from Texas...I wouldn't think you get much snow down there...
 
I don't worry about the snow here. I had a 2wd pickup that would get stuck on wet grass. NEVER again.

Don't worry about what other people say about it. Get what you want at a price you feel comfortable with and enjoy the vehicle.

no snow, as others have said, it's Texas, so in the city it's just flat land.

I'm assuming you are all correct that it's softex. i'll check, but it's two toned black on the outside with gray inserts in the middle.

not too worried about resale as I like to keep my vehicles for the long run, hence why I'm shopping a 4runner that I can get the miles out of.

it won't just be an urban warrior, it could make it to the beach, fishing on the coast, and overall just a larger hauler that can get stuff around. I'm coming from a Juke. it's time for a big boy vehicle versus a wind up car.

and finally I just like the idea of the rolling rear window so the dogs can be in the back and have some fun getting some air! plus I can haul some lumber with the window rolled down.
thanks for all the input. learned a few things (softex) and sounds like most are in agreement that it's at least worth looking at.

this is what forums are for, offering up advice. been a Nissan guy most of my driving years, but hoping to join the Toyota crowd soon.

Just a general guideline - check what it's suppose to go for at:
edmunds.com
kbb.com
nada.com

It's certified, so that's always a plus.
Since it was a lease, find out if it was used for business purposes or not.

Lastly, if you're comfortable with the price and it's what you're looking for, what's stopping you???


Pertaining to the 4runner specifically, what is it that's concerning you?
Sounds like you've done some research on this vehicle already so you're aware of the typical MPG you'll get and that the aftermarket scene is plentiful.

this one isn't certified, but neither have my last two vehicles and I tend to take care of them pretty well.

really just came to get advice on the price. kbb, nada, etc. are all directional, but it seems this is all good.

I've gotten what I needed out of this forum, so now it's back to sealing the deal. it's been on the lot since April, so it doesn't seem that they're "trying" to sell it. it's a buick/gmc dealer. 27.9K seems good, but I'm a sales guy, so I'm aiming for 27.5K in reality though i'll take 27.9K

already pre-approved, so all I have to do is go sign a check.

Don't bother coming to us for pricing - hence why I recommended checking out the sites I listed.

Bear in mind the 3 different categories for pricing...

Trade-in

I would try to stick with a certified vehicle - if it can't be certified, it's due to some issue or mileage. In your case, I'd be weary as 33k miles is within the range to certify a used vehicle.

but a Buick/GMC dealership won't certify a Toyota.
familiar with the categories of pricing, not my 1st purchase in this manner.
and why wouldn't I come to a 4runner forum for pricing of what others have paid? that's what these forums are for.
nada and kbb say I should be able to sell my 350z for $4,000 - $4,500 but if you keep up with real world Z pricing on the Z forums people are still getting $7,000 for their Z's.

anyways, not here to argue, again, got directionally what I was asking for.

because in all honesty other than rugged reliability the 4Runner isn't a very good SUV, it's outclassed by pretty much everything. The Highlander is better in basically every way except for 4WD performance, so if you don't need 4WD you should get the Highlander.
