5th Gen springs vs Fj Springs on 4th Gen

I have searched far and wide (and on toyota 120) -- information is extremely conflicting on 5th gen springs vs FJ springs. Does anyone have some clear information in regards to differences?

I found some '16 5th gen springs, I'm trying to see where the will get me w/ bilstein 5100's on my 4th gen relative to FJ springs.

Any info is truly appreciated

I dont have the exact specs but I believe the 5th gen rear springs are about 10% stiffer then stock 4th gen maybe 5% stiffer then FJ. for what its worth I run 5th gen Radflo 2.0 rear springs.. so they are 20% stiffer then stock 5th gen.

picked up new 5th gen springs for $60 yesterday on CL

spent hours diggings through old posts yesterday, looks like they are pretty dang comparable to the FJ's. I will be doing 5100's @ 1.75 + 5th gen springs, and daystar rear 1.5" next weekend.

Keep us updated on your changes and let us know how it drives for better or for worse. Should be a huge improvement.

he gained that 1" by using the 2.5" 5100 setting and maxing out the coils preload. YMMV:flypig:

But having installed rears from a 5th gen a while back there not really any improvement.

The reason why i'm actually looking at the 5th gens is mainly because the Moog fjc springs apparently do not fit on our 4th gens rear axle well. FJc springs are another alternative, but I can't find them + i'd be worried about high milage.

If you could, i'm sure you'd probably be better off buying a good set of springs from a well known off-road company..

I mean...depending on what you want to do with your truck. I'm looking to find FJ springs because I don't really want more than an inch of lift and I drive on road 80%. Presumably an off-road company would be selling springs more intended for off-roading. And I was in a dealer last week and asked if they sell oem fj springs and they said yes ($100+ each). But i'm skeptical because it seems like everybody is under the impression that they dont sell them...?

I don't know what everyones thoughts are, but i'm willing to bet that at $100+ each, majority of people will buy a set of aftermarket springs, as you can easily get a used set of FJC springs for $100~, but YMMV.

Are there any aftermarket springs that are fairly similar to fj springs (In terms of height and stiffness)? I'm kinda under the impression most aftermarket options will pretty quickly get into the 2"-3" lift range...I really have no idea tho. 884 might be the most similar?

I'm in the same boat as you, looking for new springs. So I'm not entirely sure.

I haven't been able to find that same info on the 5th gen's, people all seem to have differing views on the springs. I'll measure/photograph the 4th vs 5th gen's when I get around to putting them in. Figure new 5th gen springs, even if they are the same, are worth the $60 i paid for em.

Too much good skiing/biking/river surfing right now to take a whole Saturday to do suspension and ball joints....

I personally just put some brand new (<5000 miles) REAR 5th gen springs on my 2004 4Runner V8. I gained about 1/2" of lift or so. They do have 1x more coil wraps than the 4th gen ones I had. Driving, they feel much stiffer, but that may be due to the old ones being worn out a bit (160,000 miles).

As far as fitment, they are a perfect fit with no modification needed.

In the attached image of the 4Runner, I have adjustable Bilstein 5100's on the front set at +1.75" using stock 2004 V8 springs. 5th gen coils and Bilstein 5100's on the rear (gave me maybe 1/2" lift there due to the nitrogen charge, 1/2" from the springs), and 265/70/17's (just for reference on what you're looking at).

Rears: 48231-35321 $90.95/ea.
Fronts: 48131-35541 $116.30
48131-35551 $117.76

These were purchased new in 2016 from Toyota of McDonough, Georgia.

I removed xreas and stock springs and installed these along with 4600 Bilstiens.
