5th Gen Strut On 4th Gen?

I bought a secondhand 5th gen OEM suspension and know the rear shocks don't work on 4th gens without boring out the hole in the chassis, but do the front struts bolt in without modification? Part number is 48510-35430.
Note: this is not an FJ or Trail strut.

The lower strut bush has a different thickness or sleeve to it. I don't know if the OD of the bush is the same and you can push out your old ones and put them in these, but I know there's a difference there.

i have never realized that. i just kinda swap 4th and 5th gen parts freely. never had a bolt with play in the bore of the sleeve.

I don't think it's in the bolt hole/size, it's the width of the bushing in the LCA. I think it's only a few mm difference, so it wouldn't be noticed easily.

It's the same modification as the later model FJ struts. You have to grind the bushings and eyes down. I've done it twice now; I added 2012 TRD FJ suspension and then did the 5th gen 4Runner TRD pro suspension. Exactly the same mod.

I just did the 5th to 4th gen suspension swap this past weekend. You can either grind the bushing down, or spread the flanges out that the bolt passes through on the lower control arm itself. You can do this with a crescent wrench (snug the jaws of the wrench over one of the tabs, pull away from center of control arm, then do the other tab. Don't freak out, when you tighten the bolt the tabs will pull right up to the shock bushing. You could also spread the tabs out by using a punch and a hammer.

I know this is an old thread but I have a chance to buy brand new 2020 TRD OR struts / shocks and rear shocks. Other then the lower bushing width, will the top hole on the rear shock fit without drilling a bigger hole? Is there anything else I need to know before I purchase the used suspension? I have a 2003 Limited V8 with a tired xreas that has to be removed. Thanks

If the price is right I'd give it a try. I have 2019 4Runner strut assemblies on my 03, the change was like night and day. 5 mins of modification to make them fit. I don't have any knowledge on the rear suspension as I only replaced the shocks with KYB.
