5th Gen toytec lift question

im currently deployed in the middle east and was wanting to put a toytec boss 2.0 lift on my 14 sr5 when I get back. my question is with the TRD rims im going to buy what the biggest size tire I can put on without cutting? I was looking at Falken wildpeak a/ts and Nitto terra grapplers. I appreciate any help, thank you!

well, guess it depends on what kind of trimming. TRD pros have their bumpers trimmed at port to fit the stock tire size on the TRD wheels. So...if you don't want to trim at all, don't run the TRD wheels.

There is also an entire thread that goes over the subject of tire sizes and modifications required.

No trimming at at all? I'd say stick with the 275/70/17's. If you don't mind trimming some 285/70/17's.

Exactly... as [MENTION=146469](none)[/MENTION] was saying. They have a different backspacing, so it's like running stock rims with spacers.

You'll notice in the threads below...

Stock trail/SR5 rims = No rub

TRD or aftermarket = Rub

Lift make very minimal difference because of wheel articulation through the movement of th shock with our wheel wells + IFS. You may not rub on the street but if you get anny flexing off road you will.

Wheel spacers equal cutting, period. I'm still running 265's on 8" wide wheels with spacers on a 2" lift. Had to cut both front fender and mudflaps. I didn't have to cut the flaps until I added the spacers. 33's equate out to 285's and most 285's require cutting even without spacers. And sometimes a body mount chop. Sometimes you just won't know until you stuff them under there.

I'm not sure about your wheel size. In 2015 SR5 rims were 17x7. The Trail rims were 17x7.5. For 33 and 34 inch tires you need to check the recommended rim size. The link that CF Machete posted probably has some info on required rim size. They may require 8" or 9" rims.

Correct, but the backspacing on the Trail wheel is different then the TRD. The TRD is thinner but spaced so it would look like an 8" wheel for appearance (that's why they have to trim TRD Pros at port even with stock 265 70r 17 Nitto Terra Grapplers). So if you were to add a 1.25" spacer to that you would also essentially have to trim as much as you would with a 9" wheel that had OEM backspacing.

Also as [MENTION=115572]DesertCanyons[/MENTION] mentioned most tire manufacturers do not recommend over a 275 70r 17 on a 7" rim. 285's or bigger usually require a 7.5" rim at minimum although there are many on this forum that run 285's on the TRD wheel (they are just outside the recommended manufacturer specs and some places won't mount them).

While I don't have the Toytec lift on my truck I do have the BFG A/T 285s, Spidertrax spacers and stock wheels. I only had to fart around with the inner fender liner a bit and remove the mud flaps. I'm running the OME setup which I think gave me about 2.5 inches of total lift. Here's a pic for you to judge...

Stock trail wheels are 17 x 7.5
TRD Pro Wheels are 17 x 7

Nope, all 5th gen wheels are 17" except the limited which are 20".

This is correct. The TRD wheels just have a different backspacing/offset that push them out further.

No, because you are actually creating a larger turning arc for the tire causing it to rub at the front bumper and/or rear fender where the body mount is located.

Read this thread again and look at the picture towards the bottom of the page post #25. That's what gets trimmed at port on the TRD Pro's because of the wheels.

Every vehicle is a little different in terms of geometry.. Alignment can also play a role, but for a lot of owners on here, yes that is what they are doing to fit without rubbing with wider wheels, tires larger than stock or spacers. A lift can help if you are just driving on road all of the time but as soon as you get a decent flex in articulation and the wheel gets stuffed in the wheel well a vehicle will have the same issues as stock height without being trimmed.
