5th gen TPMS disable

I actually joined this forum for this specific post. Has anyone else done this? What has been your results? I've got an '11 SR5 and I am planning on doing this today.

Let us know how it goes. I haven’t done it yet, but know I will need to someday on my 2012. I’ve done both of my 2006’s successfully, although a different method.

Well, my attempt did not go well. The wires are much smaller than they appear in the picture. The insulation measures right at 1mm. I'm guessing it's either 28 or 32 gauge wire. I didn't have access to a connection capable of such a fine wire. I'm going to revisit it when I get some micro connectors and I'll keep everyone notified.
 
Since this is my first post here I couldnt start a new thread, however, I do believe I have the bypass solution for 5th gens. I have a 2018, I bought access to toyotas technical information system to download the schematics. It turned out to be the same as my 2014 Tacoma. The tpms light needs to see 3.2v or higher to stay off, unlike a ground on older generations. No big deal heres what I did. Drop the drivers side dash panel below the column. Look to the left of the column and there should be a gray box with one bolt holding it to the subdash. Unplug the wiring and locate pin 5&6, dark green and light green next to each other. The dark greeb is the light output, and the light green is 5vdc supply to the antenna module. Jumper those two wires together and plug it back into the module. The test is when you turn your ignition on you should no longer see the tpms light. I havnt driven yet but so far this looks like the solution many including myself has been after.



Great info! I want to switch to rubber valve stems instead of the metal ones. Broke one on a rock. I’ll be doing this tomorrow.

This is exactly why I want to do this mod. I have Colby valve stems for emergency (they insert from the outside) but would feel better to have rubber valve stems so they have some chance to survive a rock rub.
 
Totally works - I bought a TPMS switch from AOB and put it in a switch blank , connected up as posted earlier and I have a switchable light. - will post photo if anyone is interested

Correct but why wouldn’t you - simple to do & at night it’s a great reminder of all th hard work that went into installing it!
 
I use a program called forscan on my ford trucks. I was able to disable tpms on those trucks with no lights on. Not sure if it works with toyotas?
 
Made a jumper harness based on these recommendations and eliminated my TPMS light.

Thanks for the help! Happy to have rubber valves and no more TPMS light.

Thanks for the info. I had the guy at the tire shop read all 4 sensors and downloaded the IDs via the OBDII port. all good right.. then it lasted about 25 miles is started blinking??? then solid light. I am assuming the batteries are weak.
BTW- 2018 with wheels and sensors from another truck.
I have some Posi-taps... I will add a jumper.

MAKE A NOTE AND LEAVE IN YOUR OWNERS MANUAL THAT YOU DID THE MOD FOR FUTURE OWNERS.
I will change my tire sensors when i get my next set of tires....until then this was my fix.


no plastic covering to remove, no wire jumpers needed.

lay on the floor, look up under the dash , focus under the steering column... you can see the module (my 2017 has "ABS" stamped on it).

1, unplug the cable...
now
2, unplug the circuit retainer clip... shown below...

3, slide the circuit board out of the plastic housing.

4, put a dab of solder a between the two pins as shown here. shown below...

we also did my sons 2008 4 runner.... the board is under the cover plate that mounts under the glove box.

added a jumper corresponding to the pink black and the white black...

Thank You so much for working this out. I'll be doing this when my wheels arrive. I did not want to install the TPMS sensors and the tape over the light would bother me as much as the light itself.
 
For those of you..who maybe are like me and cant be bothered getting say your set of snow tires recoded each year. If you park in the garage and park a few feet from your summer tires/wheels which have TPMS the truck on start up will pick up their signal and your good to go..

I find the sensor doesnt come back on for about 25km. My drive to work is about 30km. At about the same spot each day on the highway light comes on.

Its a dumb system lacking any real info.

First I'd like to confirm that this mod does indeed work.
Second I'd like state for the record that zeindog is the man!

Because the wires were so thin I had to hack the scotchlok and insert the wires by hand so as to strip them sufficiently. Did the job.

My co-worker has a 2019 Tacoma TRD OR and his has the pressure readouts for each tire. I got used to having that in my 2007 Nissan Murano and wished the 4runner had that option, but it's not a big deal.
