5th Gen winch mount

We are about to pull the trigger a buy a 2011 TE. I have been looking at all of the options for winch mounting. To give some backround I am coming from a Land Rover Discovery series 1 with Warn 9000lbs winch on an ARB bumper. I have rear lockers, OME lift, and full skids.

I have owned the Disco for now 17 years. It has taken me all over the place and I love it but man am I ready for something less problematic. The TE 4runner seems to be the best option out there. With that said I am not sure I want to go the ARB or full bumper again due to the additional weight and I am not wheeling as much as I used to.

I came across this website wintermotorsports.com and they have, what seems to be, and interesting option similar to ones on the FJ. Does anyone know this company and based on what I have seen on the forum here I don't understand how this could attach and be solid.

Aside from full bumper replacement are there any other options out there aside from a front hitch that I am missing? Lucrum would be awesome if they every get around to actually coming out with something.

Awesome setup, wonder who owns that TE? On a side note, that 4Runner needs a leveling kit something fierce.......Huge drop in the nose height.

Based on what I know is behind the front plastic, they either mounted it to the front aluminum bumper, or maybe they fabricated some mounting plate and attached it to the frame on either side of the radiator. They claim this a "bolt-on" but there just isn't much back there to bolt into and still handle the weight of the truck. That aluminum bumper is designed to crush, you know?

Give the 4runner time, it will have issues too mine certainly does, except that the 4runner does not use an engine that has been in use for 40+ years.

Those products look good and they have some good welds on them, but damn is their stuff expensive. 900 bucks for that winch mount is crazy given you could get a full quality bumper for not much more.

I've been looking for a non expedition type winch mount everywhere I could think and have not come across this outfit yet. As I am tired of the "wishy washy" lack of any information from Lucrum Industries about producing a 5th gen T4R mount, I'll be calling these people tomorrow to talk some specifics with them. I love the looks, but the pictures leave me with some behind the plastics questions. I'll post what I learn if I get through to someone.

JohnsD90, Don't get me wrong, I have loved my Rover I just don't want to deal with the BMW/FORD/TATA mess that they have become. Every car has it's issue but with my Rover, in the first 70,000 miles, I had a new abs pump, new transfer case, new transmission, I don't know how many rear main seals, valve covers, steering box etc. After the first 70,000 it has been pretty good with just the normal wear items, power steering pump, water pump and I did the head gaskets at about 110k. I am thinking that the 4runner will not be nearly as bad.

SeattleMike, that's what I thought looking at your pics but looking at a pic makes it hard to be sure. It will be interesting to see how they tie into the frame, or if not how it will be able to withstand the forces.

TOYSTRY, I wonder if it's just the angle of the picture as a winch and the setup holding it shouldn't cause that much of a nose dip. If it does that would mean one soft suspension and I doubt that is the case.

Looking forward to hearing more about this and other options. Lucrum should get their act together as it sounds like the FJ is going away and as such they will need something to keep them going.

Nice Winch Mount

I'm really liking this setup. From the pictures it makes the 4R look very clean. I think the maker has a Ramona, CA address if thats the case i'll be fishing in that area next weekend. I would love to stop by his shop and have a chat with him. I'm gonna try and get some info when i get a chance!

IMO .... I don't know...It would be functionable but it takes away from "the look" of the 5th Gen front end that I've grown to like so much.

I still think this guy http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/76012-finally-got-tired-waiting-winch-mount.html had the right idea that needs minor tweeking and we need to find a fabricator to make us a internal steel bumper that ties into the frame rails to mount a winch on.The bottom grill opening is the exact height of a roller fairlead. Don't ask me how I know!

The front bumper plastic is so big and bloated already you could carry 2 or 3 bodies back behind the grills.You could easily fit a winch behind it. The only line in the way is the transmission cooler line running across and it has rubber hose ends and could easily be relocated up out of the way.

Sucks as it seem like it would be the perfect set up. Have you called them? I've emailed with no reply.

Personally I think "the look" is retained VERY well. The tops of the mount that are angled in align perfectly with the grill lines. I can't imagine an exposed winch setup looking any better. Inside the bumper is another story though.

I agree. I think that the lines match up perfectly with both the top part of the grill that angles in and the actual location of the winch matches up nicely with the lower block section of the TE bumper.

Well I called down there earlier today and left a detailed message but have not heard back yet :shrug:

For what its worth, I feel the unit as pictured looks great. But the best part is that the winch in the mount is one of Warn's Powerplant models with the built-in compressor unit. Good luck stuffing that in the bumper fascia and actually being able to use it.

StuB, hopefully they will call you back with the details. I agree, that Warn winch looks very nice in the mount. Makes me think I should give up my M9000 for the addition of air...especially since I won't have the ARM compressor anymore when I switch to the T4R. I'm excited to hear what they tell you!
