5th Generation 4runner?

I love that on the 4-runner. I think it makes it look sporty. I however do not like the 06 front bumper. It reminds me of a big Guppy fish looking at me. I hope TOY changes the style for '07 (doubt it) or ARB comes out with a new bumper.

I think the triangular c-pillar is here to stay. Imho it's what sets the Runner apart from the others in styling. Other SUVs just have a boring straight pillar - bleh. I don't think it's going away anytime soon. It's part of what makes a 4runner a 4runner; just like the opening rear hatch window and front trapezoid grill.

We have talked about this before. It was 6 years for the 2nd generation and 7 years for the third. So, if you follow history, it will be 2008 or 2009. Of course there is no guarantee it could be either of those years, or heaven forbid they drop the 4Runner altogther.toybox said:

Last year I was hesitant to buy my 4Runner because I didn't like the nasty looking spoiler but bought the truck anyways. After awhile I just accepted the look and hardly ever think about it now. The only thing I think of now is how awesome the capabilities of this truck are.

Well the way I see it is that they still have to redo the Sequoia and the highlander before they get to a redesign of the 4Runner.
I can't imagine why they would drop the 4Runner, really clueless as to why that would even be a thought.

My parents talked to me all my life how things out of your control can change your life. They lived through the Great Depression as children. What if gas prices REALLY climb, we would be looking at a Echo as a mid size car. I know Toyota was planning on getting the 4th genration in 2002, but tastes change and they came out with the Highlander in 2001, a car pretty much the same size as the 3rd generation 4Runner. Then there was talk about if the 4Runner would be for anther generation. The only thing cetain to be the same in the future as now is "change".toybox said:

I agree that the only thing that is certain is change, BUT they could redesign according to the times and still look, feel and be called a 4Runner. I've owned a 4 cylinder 4Runner and still loved it. That was a damn fine 4 cylinder. Add that to the fact that they could make it lighter and smaller like it used to be I really feel confident that the 4Runner model will be around for a long time. Lastly, the Sequoia would be the first to fall.

You wanna talk about stupid styling? Look at the Subaru's Tribeca....All bulbous, bulging llike Anna Nicole Smith after a Hometown Buffet bash. And the front end reminds me of the Edsel....for those of you old enough to know what that monstrosity looks like.....reminds of that old song, "Mother in law, mother in law...Mother in law, mother in law....."

When I purchase any vehicle I first of all drive everything in it's class. Once I narrow it down to a few I then test drive each of them again to see how well the interior appeals to me (seat comfort, head and leg room, design of the dash and ergonomics, etc.). The looks of the exterior is a distant third on my list. I have found the older I get that I put less importance on the exterior.elemint said:

It is as quiet and smooth as any "car based" SUV but rugged enough to tackle any off road course, tow a small yacht or drive through 3 feet of snow. The interior is handsome and except for the power window switches is ergonmically ideal. As far as the exterior I like the front end of the '06's. It is more aggresive than the '03-'05's. I do admit the view from the side is not as good as the gen 3's and the main reason is the triangular c-pillar. Was that enough to keep me from buying it? Heck no! I love this vehicle. It comes exactly as advertised. It is not a pretender but an honest to God Swiss Army Knife of an SUV. I don't regret for a moment that I purchased it and with mine being Titanium my c-pillar really stands out. If it bugs you that much why not buy a black 4Runner. The dark glass and the c-pillar kind of blend together and makes the c-pillar look less objectionable.
I think you are allowing a trivial matter keep you from enjoying a great vehicle.
