5th Generation 4runner?

Here are my 2 cents - like em or not...
Toyota will either get rid of the 4runner or the highlander. Why else did they make the new rav4 over a foot longer?
I would guess based on the fact that Toyota is smart when it comes to doing what makes the most sense in the American car market that they will keep the 4runner, since it has more appeal due to it's off road heritage. But expect changes we won't like.
My guess is, the next "4runner" will be more car based with better mileage - i.e. a highlander/4runner mish-mosh, offering a 4cylinder, with the 6 as the upgrade. Byebye V-8's. By 2009 Americans will be getting out of the trend of buying way more off road capability than they need, just because it's fun to drive. We will slowly realize it's not worth the money to drive a 17mpg truck when most of the time your on-road anyway.
We can always keep our fingers crossed, but I just don't think a new 4runner in 2009 that's similar to our 4th gens (capabilies, power, size, "truck") will continue to sell well.

I personally don't mind the C pillar at all as far as look's go , I was most put off by the rear spoiler, but had since grown on me.

As far as furtue 4R's , we can all spectulate ect about what they will do , but my hope is that they keep this thing a truck and not go to a car style suv.

I would love to see a widr version that look's and sit's up like the current Tacoma.

Who know's ........All I can say is that this is my First Toyota/foriegn vehcile period, and I'm diggin this truck totally !

Future 4Runner

Want to see the future 4Runner?

Meet the Fortuner. It has a few clues about what's on Toyota's mind for the future.
The C-Pillar is not triangular. It's tilted.
Is this structurally sound?

I saw many of those while in the Philippines on holiday. They are very nice looking while going driving down the road. I didn't like them at first when I saw it in pictures, but it grew on me when I got up close to it.

Starting to get a little run of the mill SUV, soccer momish for me.

Me not like , want more aggressiove off road look or package.

And if they do look like that then I will go elsewhere

EDIT: The more I look at it the more disapponted I become . I thought I finally found a good , solid truck based SUV that can handle plenty of off roading and look pretty tough at the same time, be very functional, and have a pretty long history of being very truck like ans tough,ect.... I think I have found that in my 06 SE 4x4 V8. This is my first Toyota , but alway's have had truck's GM and Mostly Ford , but if they yuppie out the 4R (like the photo show) like they have done with the domestic SUV's....I don't know what I'll do next......................:(

As you can see, the pilars are not triangular.

I'm sorry but what the heck is the c-pillar. I cant figure it out.

I believe the pillars are lettered from front to back. So the pillar between the windshield & the driver's door is the "A pillar". The one between the front seat & back seat windows is the "B pillar". And the one behind the back seat windows is the "C pillar".

I guess that would make the one all the way in the rear the "D pillar".

I think the liklihood of Toyota abandoning the Runner is remote at best. It has niche that it fills. A true truck based SUV with true off-raod capabilities. The Highlander and Sequoia fill there spots, Kid/Grocery haulers and the occasional snow storm. If you look at the whole lineup of theirs, it caters to everone's needs in the SUV market. Just my two.

I sure hope your right and it make's sense to me . I just hope it does'nt look like the pic. posted of what might be the new style. I wont buy that !!

I still think that T&H Euro bar is one of the best front bar's I've seen. And you say it's pretty sturdy ? It should look OK with my GG in stainless. It just look's made for the 06 4R.

Thanks, I would have to agree. It's real sturdy. There's NO vibration from the front end over bumps. I just think it's the best, and I researched a lot before I bought. JAOS is awesome, but for the every-man, dollar for dollar, no comparison.

Agreed !!

Dangs...lots of scary talk going on in here. Well if worse comes to worse...I can always trade in my 04, for a relatively new 09 with less than 30k.
