I am looking to replace my 2021 stock ORP rims with some aftermarket rims.
In speaking with my tire guy I got the following impression.
Be aware of the following:
• A lot of aftermarket rims are not of high quality and don't compare to the stock rims. I will notice the finish doesn't last like OEM. So make sure to buy high quality and avoid lower quality brands. However, the real high quality brands are reflected in the price and you pay for durability in materials, finish, etc
• Be careful when choosing the specs. The OEM rims are specifically made for the truck. Choosing the wrong offset etc etc can affect the overall performance of the vehicle. There are a lot of specs so make sure you know how to choose properly
Overall he suggested just staying stock as its a better choice and going aftermarket has it's pitfalls if not done correctly.
I value my tire guys opinions. He is very knowledgable at what he does. Maybe his warning is justified and comes from clients not being educated when purchasing aftermarket and he is simply warning of the pitfalls.
Any opinions on this? So far what has stopped me from buying is being extremely overwhelmed with the choices and simply not having enough knowledge to choose the right brand, specs, materials etc.
I have read some threads as to why the TRD Pro rims are so popular. My guess is the choice is easy, people know what they will look like as they have seen them before and it's a safe choice made specifically for the truck.
Any opinions to help me make a choice is appreciated.
I already have tires picked out (General Grabber ATX) but I cant move forward until I decide on what to do with the rims.
