Was it that close to the blast that the shrapnel pattern was that tight, or was the front half of the vehicle parked behind something that took the blast?


4runners in Afghanistan are nothing new...The Tacomas are used quite a bit by SF and UN

Just got back from Afghanistan and you see a lot of Toyota hiluxs, 3rd gen 4Runners, and Land Cruisers. Toyota is definitely the dominant brand used by our military for vehicles on FOBS. You do see some Ford Rangers and Nissans too though. I preferred the Hilux personally since it had a small diesel engine it.

A bit off-topic, but I went to the Q-Course with the guy second from the right standing-up behind the guy kneeling. He's a bit of a weird dude, and I have no idea how he passed the written tests, but he could carry a lot of shit. I chuckle a little every time I see this photo pop up.

The T4R is parked where it was when the metal rain came down. My hooch was 10 meters away.

no special forces guy in his right mind would get in a US Spec toyota in the middle east. (There goes you're cover... )The local bad guys use toyotas (pretty much exclusively)trust me, they know the vehicles available in that area inside and out cosmetically and mechanically... driving around in a US Spec toyota will get ya shot at real quick. We have us embassies and liason officers for a reason, to covertly procure this crap and then push it out the back door once given a thorough accelerated aging process on the paint to make it blend in more...
