5thGen level info??

Very excited to be purchasing my very first 4runner. Got the trail premium edition, and have a few questions as a newbie. I've been looking around at leveling kits. What do you recommend? I don't want to change the factory drive or create problems in the long run so I am looking for some advice. Thanks in advance.

*do not have kdss installed
* would not be opposed to a small lift maybe 3"but I am on a budget and have not heard great things about the spacer style lifts.

If you don't want to create problems in the future or change the factory drive, leave it stock. Throw a decent pair of AT tires and be done with it.

There are PLENTY of threads on lifts and leveling so look around.

Well I definitely want to raise the front to be level, but I will check out some of the threads on here and see what others have done. Thanks for your help

Bilstein 5100s instead of spacers. Set to 0.85 leaves it 1 inch higher in the rear. 1.75 will be a better level but may go tail low with much load.

^ this. I ran 5100s with no spacers, no problems with rubbing. Bumped the wheels up as you can see in my mod list below. IF you increase wheel/tire size you'll get about 19mpg on the interstate, so you lose about 3mpg. My combined mileage was 17.5 with my very subtle mods.

I dont think I lost even 1mpg by going to a larger and E rated tire. unless you hopped up to as heavy as MT I would think you'd lose 3mpg

I jumped up wheel size too, stood about 2in taller overall. It was a noticeable difference. If you maintain the stock wheel id imagine the impact would be less.

You can argue that any lift will change the factory ride. A top spacer will be the closest to maintaining the feel of the front shocks and springs, but it still changes the geometry and the driving habits of the vehicle.

I am definitely in favor of the 5100s. I plan to be towing a boat, and other trailers regularly. Do you think the 1.75 would be too much?

would i also need to purchase new shocks?

ahhh no, the fronts are coilover shocks not struts. Lets not confuse the new people.

A strut also acts as the spindle and is a steering pivot point. Were a 4Runner has a separate spindle that is not attached to the coilover.

Agreed, but they are listed as struts at a parts counter or online part sales.

hah yes was referring to the rear shocks, but nonetheless the question still stands would I need to replace them to be able to tow with confidence?
