6 inch fj lift

I would like to attempt to put a rough country 6 inch fj lift on my 4runner, use whatever i can of the front (hopefully all of the front drops in to place) and use spacers and ome rear springs in the rear, other than brake lines does anyone know what hang ups i would run into trying to install this? I am a metal fabricator for a living so i can modify stuff if i really have to. Thanks, chris

I haven't heard good things about Rough Country kits to be honest. If you have the fab skills you'd be better off finding the shock/springs you need and making your own "kit" to achieve that high a lift.
 
I feel like you wouldn't be able to get the caster in spec and would have a host of issues, even with the LR or Allpro UCA, no? [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] can you shed some light on this?
 
That Fj seemed to have issues due to the stock UCA. I think someone on here, Huskey maybe? Was running the rough country and he had to do some fabrication to make it work.

I think the 6" kit came with taller hubs/spindles and that paired with aftermarket UCAs was OK for alignment. The issue was with the drop bracket. Find huskeys build and it has it all...I can't seem to locate it.
 
Yep it was Husky that did the 6" lift outfit with the FJ cruiser 6" bracket lift. He had to modify the FJ brackets to fit the 4runner And to match the rear height he converted over to leaf springs on the rear axle.

He's no longer an active member here as a couple months back he got his truck a little to deep in a water crossing and insurance wound up totaling it. He had a mess of electrical issues. However you can still get info off of his build thread.

There was a guy on here or 120 a few months ago that did it. If I remember correctly you have to modify the drop bracket a little. I'll see if I can find the link

Ok I got a definitive answer back from Rough Country.

They had tried to retro fit the lift kit for the FJC to the 4 Runner. Our 4 Runners have bigger Differentials in the front (8 inches instead of the standard) as well as different front suspension cradles. Slight changes for the V6, major changes for the V8 models.

All thought the A Arms, Shocks, and upper control arms are shared between the FJC and the 4 Runner. The rest of it is different.

Okay let me set the record straight the Rough country 6 inch if 07 fits like a glove on 03 to 09 for 4 runner. It aligns almost perfect to factory specs. With the stock shocks I did the radflo 3.0 and stock uca's there wasn't any fab necessary at all. I've had mine for two years now with not a single problem perfect tire wear. I also have had a wonderful experience with warranty and service too some minor sway bar bushings had fine cracks and one Spring was slightly lower (.75) then the other took a couple pic's two days later all fixed up and they sent out the 2.2 shocks for free just in case wow right. If you live in cali we can meet and you can in person judge for your self if this for you or not. I'm mostly on Toyota120.com same user there. If you need some pic's let me know I'm very happy whit this set up. I'll be doing an Lexus rx470 next with the rough country with radflo camburg ext travel 3.5 yea ha.

I'm not sure why so many people are having so many issue's you do need the fj coils .50 inch taller then the 4runner in the front if your running the after market coil overs you can go up and correct that camber caster issues till it right. The kit does also say that you'll need 17 to 20 inch rims with at least 10 inch wide rim -12 4.5 to 5 back spacing to clear the knuckles. It tells you all of this before the purchase. Grinding down knuckles weaking them why? Get the correct wheels and tires for your lift doing it right the first time. Also the alignment shop has to know what there doing too .

There are several that have done this lift, and not had issues as tomcatt above me said. Do your research and you'll be fine. Make sure to make a build thread about it too!!!
