60" Hi Lift Jack cargo area fitment request?

Hello, all! I have begun collecting wheeling and adventure gear for the new TRDP, and have been digging around for ways to temporarily (but securely) store a hi-lift jack. We are trying to avoid major exterior modifications, but are gatherig up some of the more essential temporary overland options (hi lift in lieu of a winch, Yeti instead of a fridge, an alligator-clamp compressor instead of a permanent one, etc).

Long story short, can anyone with a 60" Hi Lift verify if their jack would fit, lying flat, in the space pictured below (where the tape measure is)? I measured it at 61-63" (the side panels are curved), but I am mostly concerned about the bulkier base and mechanism preventing it from fitting well). I am totally willing to remove the base to make it fit, and re-pin it in place when needed. I do intend to create some form of secure mounting solution for safety. Also, yes, the dogs do sit back there, but we keep a ~3" thick dog pad back there which would cover the jack (so they probably wouldnt even notice).

You're going to want to remove the base anyway since it rattles like crazy. My 60 is mounted on the roof rack and it still clearly audible. I just lay it flat under my driver's seat and it stays put.
You'll probably want to get a neoprene cover for the runner works as well, to help deaden the sound of the non-fixed parts rattling around.

As for mounting x-ways in the cargo area, from inner wheel well to inner wheel well is 40" so there should be enough room from wall to wall if it's lifted off the floor a bit and can slide into the cubby on the right. It will definitely be close, and you'll need something solid to mount to, like a drawer system or bolting directly to the floorboards.
Can't imagine the whole thing is going to play well with your dogs though.

Indeed, the 61-63" measurement is aft of the wheel wells, and all the way into the lower cubby on the right side. I believe it will likely fit, but I want to make sure before buying one and possibly having to ship it back.

We have the slide-out tray, which appears to be at the right level to allow the jack to rest on it with the top fitting into the cubby on the right side. I expect I will build brackets on either side of the tray to secure the jack.

As far as the dogs go, their pad really is pretty nice haha. I think with the jack being only a few inches from the back hatch, and the 3" pad on top of it, it shouldn't be much in the way. Worst case, I'll wrap it in a towel if I feel like it protrudes into their space enough to create a hazard. But, they are pretty tough, heh. The oldest one used to go wheeling with me in my Samurai, and I'd hit trails rough enough that I had to create a strap in the seat to secure his harness so he wouldn't fly around the cabin!

Attached was him as a puppy! Gosh, I can't believe he's 8 now... :sobbing:

I know it might not be much use but here is my 48" Extreme mounted in the back.

You can see 6" additional on a side is going to be a lot and tight. Also you really need to have more of a permanent mount for it. You don't want to get into an accident or be off road and have that heavy jack get free in the back and become a weapon.

It has since been moved to the rear bumper so it is out of the truck.

A bungee cord from the base to one of the holes on the beam works fine to keep the base from rattling. I bolt mine to the roof rack and it pretty much stays there all summer. Keep a can of silicone spray in the truck to lube it up when/if I need to use it.

I had actually found a thread where you posted this picture! You and a few other folks posted jacks mounted in the cargo area in one way or another.

And I definitely intend to mount it securely back there, probably running bolts through the floor in one fashion or another.

I suppose I could split the difference and cut a few inches off the top if I had to. (The main reason I want the 60" is for winching, so an extra 10 inches is still at least 20% more actual travel).

I think that's probably the best mounting spot inside the cab since it will interfere the least. Since I had the drawers putting it on the tailgate side would have made putting things in the back a pain.

I have a 60" jack. I use these on the roof rack. Zero issues. And, when I'm home/travelling on highway, it comes right off.

Sorry I missed these comments. Yes, they fit very well. I wrapped them with duct tape, but probably didn't need to do that.

I have the base toward the back of the vehicle. The whole thing is tilted inward, and the base kind of "rests" on the black plastic roof rack mount. I'll have it on over the weekend and will take a pic.

It really is easy to install and remove. Less than 5 mins.
