6th Gen 4Runner Predictions!

BOF continues with basically all the same stuff underneath, but the new 4runner gets the Tacoma 8.7" rear diff. Lockers are now swapable without a housing mod for other models. 4runner keeps rear disc brakes.

Engine remains 4.0L v6 but adds D4S injection and atkinson operation. 300hp/300tq. Engine is carried over from foreign market Hilux. 8spd trans. 2mpg improvement.

KDSS expands to Limited edition with air suspension, option on TRD Pro.

Interior updates look much more like Highlander/Tacoma.

Ok, so I think it'll be modeled after the international platform vehicle Fortrunner. BOF.

Engine: 3.5 liter with an 8 speed. or...

I am hoping for an atkinson cycle 4.6 liter DI engine option. Coupled with an 8 speed, good for 17 city 24 highway. Regular gas. (Tow rating 7K lbs would be great!)

LE will be full time 4WD as it is today. Driver assist aides loaded up: BSM, RTA, auto cruise control etc... LED lights would be great too!

It'll sticker for 49K with V6, 51K with V8.

I hope it gets Android and Apple integration! I dont' ever use my navi, I think they should do away with it. Waze + Spotify and I'm good to go.

I drove one when visiting my gf's family in Thailand and wasn't that impressed.

Also, all you have to look at is how the wheels are stuffed into the wheel wells that hard core off road use isn't in its blood.

The Fortuner isn't that great of a product, it's lower on the Toyota quality food chain compared to the Prado and 4Runner.

I drove one when visiting my gf's family in Thailand and wasn't that impressed.

On paper it sure looks better equipped than any 4runner. Or at least it has the option of being better equipped. I understand that looking good doesn't always mean actually being better though.

The Fortuner is slightly smaller and definitely feels (and actually is) cheaper than the 4Runner, more like a Hilux based SUV.. Also struggles with limited wheel travel compared to the Prado/4Runner platform.. btw, all Prados here are standard with refrigerated glove boxes, and no 6mt versions exist of the v6 4.0 either

I can't help to speculate that the last generation Foretuner equipped with the 1GRFE haul ass. In my 4th gen, if you kick her, she'll move. Foretuner is lighter so I can only guess that it's much faster.

After a few days I will make a poll after taking the most popular choices that are similar. We will vote and bring this thread back up when we know more!

Body style generally will remain the same formula. I am anxious to see whether the 4Runner turns into more of a Prado, body panel wise.

2. Drivetrain
Engine will get either a hybrid direct/port or direct injection. Transmission gets at least one more cog. V8 possibility due demand and gas prices.

3. Suspension
Generally Unchanged

4. Model
Generally Unchanged. I am curious to see whether the Lexus GX stays a separate model from the 4Runner especially if what I said about the Body happens. If that happens, there will be a Platinum Edition.

+$500/$750 at least on all models

Please dear god - move the door switches back down to the arm rest height. I hate the switches on top of the sill area.

I could see the body being the same as the new Prado for cost saving measures, but they'll have to do something about the tailgate for the US, no 4Runner in history has had a barn door, and they've all had rolldown rear glass.

Interesting. Everyone that gets into mine comments on how they like where the switches are. No hunting. I like them up there too. What I don't like is when vehicles have them located on the center stack or console. (Mini)

I just hate them up there cause they get all wet every single time you have to open the window if it's raining or snowing. Somewhere deep down I'm afraid something will short.

Same for me. Snow + window switches on the sills = wet switches. And dirty switches. It also means the door is thicker and the interior shoulder room is diminished.

I do like them better than a center console location.
