6th Gen 4Runner Predictions!

We had a baby and I now find my 4Runner a bit smaller... well not really, but once you get a car seat in the back seat and a $700 stroller in the trunk, you start running out of space if you have more passengers and luggage.
I rented a GMC Yukon SLT in Florida for 2 weeks in March and, honestly, I loved it. MPG was not that bad, decent pick-up with the 5.3L V8 and the extra width was awesome. Carseat in the middle with room for passengers on both sides. 3rd row also sucks but the trunk is obviously bigger with the 3rd row seats down.
Anyway, I've emailed my dealer about when the Sequoia is getting re-designed because that thing is a dinosaur. They said next year but online sources don't seem to indicate that. Just minor changes.
I really love my 4Runner. It drives just like the day I bought it 4 years ago. My issues/annoyances are minor but if the next gen does not address them, I will likely have to consider something else.
My wants for the next gen are:
1) an extra inch of headroom in the front (and the rear is weird because the ceiling drops in front of you due to the sunroof. Addressing this design would be nice.
2) an extra inch of pitch/legroom in the 2nd row would be nice. Would help with car seats.
3) up/down control for the front passenger seat. I HATE how high the seat is set and sitting in that seat period. I can basically touch the sunroof glass with my head. Anytime my wife DD's I silently curse to myself at the annoyance of my head crunching against the ceiling.
3) more room in the trunk will be corrected by me not getting 3rd row next time
Looking forward to seeing styling changes and interior changes and hoping the headroom/legroom gets addressed.

Funny how it's all about where you start. We bought a Honda CR-V for our first kid because a Civic coupe wasn't going to work. Then we had another kid. Once our second was almost 3, we felt like the CR-V was getting too tight and needed more room. The 4Runner became our "big" vehicle and the extra space felt incredible.

I would check out the "new" Nissan Armada's. They're basically Nissan Patrol Y62's without some off road goodies but if this is family vehicle it might not matter. They're still based off a 2010 design but it's still a hell of a lot more refined than the Sequoia. Not to mention it's actually reasonably priced. You can get a featured out Armada for much less than a Sequoia. TBH everything in the Toyota truck/suv lineup is outdated except for the Tacoma which in itself was a half-assed remodel.

I have no idea what they are going to do with the 4 Runner but my want list is
Radar Cruise
Blind Spot Monitor
At least 8 inch Nav screen
Reverse cross trafic alert
A nav and bluetooth that actually works
Panic braking front and rear to a total stop
Pr fold Mirrors
Heated and pr adjusting steering wheel
Memory seats/mirrors/steering wheel with 2 settings
Pr tailgate
6-8 speed transmission
300+ HP
Much better turning radius
Dont change the Limited body style at all its perfect,best looking car on the road.

I agree...run out of space very quickly. I am torn between a new '17 LE or a Z71 Tahoe - I do NOT want to spend the extra 10k for the Tahoe but I really want the extra room. Although they took a lot of Cargo room away in '15 with the redesign and mandatory 3rd row vs the prior years being able to remove the seats. I am trying to find a Chevy dealer to really give me a steal, if not I will be going with another 4Runner (which is not bad
) I looked at those on-line the other week, they peek my interest a little bit. I am not a fan or Nissan usually. Test drove another Nissan SUV years ago and was not impressed at all. I might have to swing by a dealership and take a look, but will not go out of my way to do it

They will just break and add frustration + COSTS. The 4Runner costs what it costs because it is well made, not because it has bullpoop sensors.
The more people want these minivan/crossover features - the LESS it will become a 4Runner - it is why crossovers killed true SUVs! You want a crossover? Buy one.
Want those features? get a Sienna or a Highlander / or any other AWD crossover, great vehicles.
Please stop trying to cut off the 4Runner's balls.

The current 4Runner is one of the best looking vehicles made by any manufacturer in the last 25 years. why are so many people on this forum so trigger happy to kill it off?

All I know is at the Denver auto show they had 3 2017 4 runners and as usual people were tripping over each other to get in them. People love 4 Runners. I'm taking some heat from a couple friends who are not happy about me selling mine. I'm ok though because the JGC is loaded and does everything amazing. Except to be fair I must disclose at 1500 miles all the warning lights on the instrument cluster started flashing and my wife had to pull over and shut it off. When she restarted it everything was fine. Reboot. She's on her 5,000 mile trip. Colorado to Florida Keys then up to Niagra Falls and back home. Should I be scared?

I want to see a full complement of modern safety features on all street-legal vehicles. Including 4Runners. God help us, but we live in an age where most can't even manage to stay in their own lanes while moving down the road.
As for the 6th Gen, I would like to see some additional features for the off-road side of the world:
*Integrated power control for an optional second battery.
*Extra factory-installed wiring conduits for later use. It's a lot easier to install conduits before you add the headliner and carpeting.
*PSI numeric displays for TPMS.
*Attachment points for antennas, rally flags, etc. on the pillars.
*Dark-adaptation mode: Nothing but low red running and interior lights.

I think you knew what you were getting into and that's great since it meets your needs/wants. I like Jeeps, just not who makes them. The JGC is a great looking vehicle with a lot of content found in much more expensive models, and in my opinion, therein lies the problem.
You have a diverse fleet, why no Volvos being that you worked on them? I always wanted an XC90 w/V8 and have long lusted the XC70. Wife thinks me crazy to like station wagons.
I hope they keep the architecture and feature set simple for the 6th Gen. I'll echo the want for a V8 and updated transmission. I don't know why we still have the 5 speed when the Prado has 6 gears, especially if we're so CAFE happy here. I think 1E is right that the Prado's redesign will be the precursor for the 4Runner's update. Just all in all a little more power and efficiency for highway travel/mountain grades would make me happy. The ability off-road is second only to some and should stay where it is on the spectrum there.

This is absolutely absurd. I hope you realize just how dumb it is to think a manufacturer is going to add a bunch of wire and attachment points for modifications that may never be used. Car manufacturers are very purpose oriented and if its not being used when it rolls off the factory floor, its simply not even going to be put into the vehicle. That goes even for OEM options that are not standard on all trim levels of the car for instance puddle light wires are not present in all 4runners because only the Limited uses them. Would it be great? of course. Is it a reasonable prediction or probable addition? absolutely not.

CONDUITS. Not wiring. Empty tubing designed for electrical wiring. You know, the kind of tubing I can get for about $0.50/foot and Toyota can get for a few yen? It's like framing your own house or pouring a new driveway. Planning ahead can save you a bundle.
BTW, as far as I know there are no trim levels that don't have a few extra plugs for a switch install. I count 4 in mine, and it would have been 5 without the auto-RB.
Oh. I see you don't like that idea of attachment points for antennas or flags either. So, let me just remind you that Toyota has a marketing department. A few $5 attachment points on suitable structural areas can be worth a ton with the right marketing. Not many of the 100K annual buyers want to start modding their vehicle. Who doesn't want to fly a flag?
