If they use that shitty 2GR out of the tacoma, all hell will let loose. I drove the new taco and was so disappointed. My FJ Cruiser feels like a dragster rolling on 35x12.5s compared to the lazy new stock tacoma. Whoever thought that engine was a great idea deserves to be canned.

Exterior Styling: Those who like the rugged appearance of the 5th Gen will not be disappointed. There were four different versions shown that ranged from mild to wild on my scale and all of them were what I would call "bold".

I haven't bought a 4Runner new, I'm a buy an old, well cared for 4Runner and take care of it kind of person. But when I have spec'd out new, it's kind of amazing to me the limited ability to personalize your truck on the way out the door or custom order a few different things.

Most common stuff I see people mod out are grill tweaks. That wouldn't be too hard to make custom switch outs. And don't get me started on the abomination that is the Limited chrome "fat lip" or whatever that is. That just should be straight up removed imho, but think if you could get your Limited without that eyesore.

The 4Runner stock SR5 wheels are so bland. The DC Craigslist is teeming with those 17" sad rims. If they could just make it reasonable to upgrade rims, that'd be a huge win.

A couple of good optional swap outs and people would feel like they are getting a more custom truck off the lot and pay more to do it.

Toyota teases new TRD for the Chicago auto show

It is kind of vague as usual but interesting.and the video is just as vague.



Toyota's TRD Pro line is more than just an aesthetic package, offering upgrades that truly do increase a vehicle's off-road capability. At the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, Toyota will introduce a new member of that family.

Toyota announced on Tuesday that it plans to unveil a new TRD Pro vehicle at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show later this week. The automaker says that, in addition to this new TRD Pro vehicle, the whole line will receive some updates for the 2020 model year.

It's not too hard to narrow down the possibilities. Both the Tacoma and Tundra have TRD Pro trims already, and while there's a new Tacoma coming to the show, I wouldn't call a 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro "new," necessarily. There's also a 4Runner TRD Pro already, leaving the C-HR, RAV4, Highlander, Sequoia and Land Cruiser as possible candidates.


Since all TRD Pro vehicles right now are body-on-frame, I think it's safe to say the mystery car in the teaser above is either a Sequoia or a Land Cruiser. Given that Toyota already announced a new Land Cruiser variant for Chicago, I assume it will be the Sequoia, but we won't know for sure until the Chicago Auto Show kicks off on Thursday. A Land Cruiser TRD Pro would be gnarly.

It's not a V8, but this is very tempting news. I would be very happy with a 300+tq diesel, especially one that has been used forever in the Hilux!
