6th generation 4Runner?

I was with you until you wrote TRD Camry, Avalon and highlander.

Please tell me this is a joke. A TRD Camry? Am I understanding you correctly?

Why not? My team just got back from racing a few at One Lap of America.

Don’t shoot the messenger. It’s clearly a profitable badge they want to cash in on. Hell bmw will put an ///M badge on anything these days. I wasn’t shocked to hear it to be honest.

It’s just paint, rims and suspension bits after all.

Why would it be a joke? The new V6 Camry is pretty quick, make it AWD and better suspension and more power and it’s now a nice little package.

You know TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development and not Trucks and Recreation Division right?

There’s a lot of car enthusiasts out there

Makes the most sense for it to have the badge because of NASCAR. And yes, I know those aren’t actually Camrys out on the oval.

But how many car enthusiasts are driving Camrys?

Now - the carolla hatch with a 6MT sounds like a winner. Frankly so does the new Rav4 if it actually has 4 wheel torque vectoring and Atrac and they put a decent engine in it. It could be a great platform for instagram overlanding.

My friend just returned from the annual toyota meeting in Dallas and there is still no solid info regarding the future of the 4runner or Sequoia just that they will be updated. There are 3 new SUVs under development, 2 compact and 1 midsize.

Other notes...

AWD coming to Camry, Prius and Avalon

TRD Pro models coming to Camry, Avalon and Highlander.

Your friend own a dealership?

Regarding the RAV4 only info was that it’s a major update coming December and they had one there but covered everyone phones with a sticker lol I’m guessing most here aren’t interested in RAV4 anyways.

I know what TRD stands for...there's NOTHING "race" about a camry and no, even with Dominique Torreto sup'ing a camry up, it's still a camry and slower than most everything else out there (and laughable by other car enthusiasts).

The Civic Type R is a car that most enthusiasts laugh at and make fun of...and a "TRD" Camry would be worse.

As an owner of two back to back TRD pro 4runners I have to point out the obvious that the nomenclature is even more hilarious on these.

Civic type r is clearly the new Pontiac Aztek. FN hideous.

Ah, was just curious.

Regarding the Rav4, I thought they announced the major redesign already with the new trims including the “Adventure” trim with the Taco front end? I believe it’s suppose to get a 2.5 I4.

I'm a car enthusiast and I don't think so. At least TRD has a culture in offroad/Baja racing and performance parts.

I doubt anyone is going to show up at a professional offroad race and think their "TRD" 4Runner or Tacoma commands respect or attention,

But a Camry? You don't see Ford sporting a Shelby Fusion. Even the Focus and the Fiesta models have a history in rally car. But NASCAR? I think everyone knows that NASCAR is so incredibly far from the passenger cars that carry their namesake they don't even bother.

At least you can see rally car versions using the same body style of their race counterparts.

I dunno, maybe I'm off base. I just see "TRD Camry" as being a punchline joke just like the Civic Type R. The only guys that get made fun of more at cars/coffee are the FIAT morons. Everytime I see "Abarth" I throw up in my mouth a little bit and say a prayer for the youth of our nation.

Yup. But TRD Avalon takes the prize. Now TBH if I were looking for a sedan, the Avalon would be a top contender. But it's a friggin "Buick", and I'm old.

Really Toyota? Really?

Hey man we are all entitled to our opinions that’s the whole point of online fora.

Shelby is a third party if I’m not mistaken right?

For me, the TRD badge does not hold a lot of weight so I don’t really care what they do with it.

As a former M3 owner I’m much more disappointed with BMW and their willingness to badge everything M or even Merc and AMG these days.

That’s said I’m trading my TRD 4Runner for a land cruiser so maybe I’d be more annoyed otherwise.

Huh, I'm at the hotel of the Toyota conference. I may try to head down and chat someone up at the bar for a deal or more info.

For me - TRD makes sense on a Rav4 to some degree. But I don't associate it at all with performance cars. If it's a toyota performance car - I'd thing Gazoo Racing is far better associated for performance cars.

The Camry has no cred as a performer.......but the ''Robo-Civic'' IS actually a badass speedster on the track. It would take a lot to get a Camry to the Type-R level.:snacker:

Finished just behind Travis Pastrana in a WRX STI. Here he is riding my bike and being way cooler than some of the “enthusiasts” here about Toyota changing the image of these cars.
