So what are we doing for trail communication? Does everyone have one of those little FRS radios (i.e. Motorola talk-about etc...)? And is anyone else besides me run a CB on their t4r?

Anyone have more last minute questions?

Where should I get a FRS radio? Does it matter what brand, or do we just have to be on the same channel? Or I can just go buy a cone and stick my head out the window, and yell really really loud. :bigok:

I've tried the yelling out the window real load trick...too many bugs in the teeth.

I have a set of FRS radios I'll bring. Hopefully we have the same channels. They are the small Motorola radios and I have car chargers for them. Someone can borrow one, since I obviously don't need both.

I have a CB as well, but don't know if I'll take the time to install it tonight. It's out of my CJ7 and never been put in the T4R.

But do the brands of the 2 way radios matter? Can you only talk between the 2 radios, or can you talk with more if you set them to the same channel?

Not that it really matters at this point, but so that we know...

I have the Motorola Talkabout FRS/GMRS radios (2)

These have 22 channels and it lists channels 1-7 and 15-22 are 1 watt power and 8-14 are 0.5 watt power. They are line of site (@ 1 watt) for a max of 10 miles. I wouldn't count on that... but great from truck to truck.

Many of the Motorola radios I looked at are in this same range of channels.

Alright well I have 2 radios with 22 channels also, and after this trip I think Blair has convinced me to get a CB radio. I am going to keep these though for when I am with people that don't have a CB. We'll check all of our 2-way radios to see if we can get on the same channel. Should work though.

Yeah they will all be compatible, CB is definitely the way to go though- good choice Josh.
 
Wheeling yesterday was fun. Good times! I'll post some pictures as well as some video of Blair "the madman" taking on some hills at HV. All good people.

My buddy thinks his For Ranger (2-wheel drive) can keep up, so I am going to have him follow me up those few hills and watch him get destroyed.

Fun day though, definitely get your pics posted guys. Especially you Blair, the pictures I took on your camera are awesome.

Thanks for posting those Blair. The 4th one is my background now. Those pictures I took of your truck with the wheel off the ground is badass. Possibly next months T4R of the month?

I am working on a trip to Big Bear soon, but I have a lot of business travel in August and September, so I it's not real promising. I'm going to check a few dates and see what happens. I've been reviewing some of the trails and trying to find a reasonable trail run. I'll get back to you with more later. It would be great if we could get Josh and Alex to join in, and maybe another rig or two.

Also, add to the timing... I'm about to pul the trigger on my build, so depending on that I might be out of commission.

Keep me in mind for any runs you guys are doing...
