$78,555 for a Land Cruiser???!!!

Well, if you had to ask, then it is not a vehicle for you! :hatsoff:

There is a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE b/w the two. It is like asking why someone would pick a BMW 335 when you can buy 2 modded Civics Si for it! Or why get G-wagen when you can buy Wrangler.

Just a few things that favors TLC (I have to run so will detail them later):

1. The body & frame strength and build quality
2. Nothing hangs below the frame rails
3. V8
4. More stout traction control that can run longer (aka heavier duty)
5. Stronger suspension components
6. Much more luxurious (in everything from plastics to leather to stereo system)
7. Much quieter

I am sure that there are more that I am missing but you get the point. Lets see...stronger body, stronger frame, better designed, quieter, more luxurious, etc.....so, you expect it to cost what for all of these??? The ONLY thing that TLC misses is the lack of rear locker...luckily, this can easily be fixed aftermarket.

Sweet....both bumpers already have rock rash on them...and he's still sporting the temp tag.

He literally had bought it less than 2 weeks before this event. I was truly amazed he was on the trails with it. I figured he'd stick to the main roads. I guess if you got the money then why not! Crazy thing is he had his wife and 3 kids with him. I don't see how he affords it all!!! I think he was in his mid 30's.

Thanks. I did take my $78k G500 off-road in Colorado less than 2 months old from showroom. Maybe the TLC guy hate to buy something and not use it to its potential like me?

I would take a LC over a RangeRover any day. I do agree that a bit of its ruggedness was lost when they went to IFS. However, the only ppl buying them were never gonna take 'em off-road. These buyers were comparing them to RRs and G-Wagens so Toyota did the smart thing (for them $wise) and targeted these buyers. If not it might've been the end of the LC. (at least in the US). That being said I want a '97 with a 5.7L V8, Slee lift and 35" BFGs!

They are still very capable vehicles that is no doubt... I just worry about things like the air suspension, complex suspension adjustment system, ect ect.

If my family gets bigger in the future. I would seriously considering getting one of these.

Hate the chrome trim on the bottom of these. If I were to own it I would paint that chrome trim to match the paint ASAP.

Now THAT is a Land Cruiser! I'd love to off-road in that! Beefy off-road suspension, heavy skid-plates, lowered suspension complexity, less likely to damage things off-road compared to stock! :frog:

That looks awesome. However, how practical is a vehicle like this? Granted it will take on rocks and boulders etc...but how is the ride ON ROAD and how is the fuel economy? Expedition vehicles are great when they find that perfect compromise b/w on-road and off-road. How much gas does it use to get from your home to whatever national park (or off-road park)?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a nicely modded vehicle...but what I found with my G500 (Firestone MTs + sliders) is that it just wasn't practical. Yeah, it could take off-road beating, but getting there was somewhat painful (rough ride) and fuel economy just sucked. In the end, it became more of a chore to take it out than it is practical.

This may explain why I prefer a barely modded vehicle to a heavily modded one. Just my opinion.

In all honesty a modded vehicle shouldn't ride harsh at all when done correctly, especially a land cruiser. I would take a modded land cruiser 200 any day and not worry about a "harsh" ride on it.

I recently put an ICON suspension lift on my 4runner and it rides better than stock. I never lifted/lowered any vehicle before. This is my first truck that I lifted and it rides extremely well and I'm very surprised by the ride.

A Land Cruiser 200 has the 5.7 V8. It gets crappy mileage as it is. Lifting it, putting on aftermarket front and rear bumpers shouldn't decrease the mileage a lot I do not think.

If you care about fuel economy in this vehicle than you bought the wrong vehicle, simple as that.

I am not in any financial distress...but a drop in fuel economy from 15 mpg to 8-10 mpg is quite significant.

Lets say 5 mpg penalty for a modded vehicle...probably being optimistic with a heavily modded vehicle that is already heavy and with a huge V8.

Stock Land Cruiser = 15 mpg

Modded TLC = 10 mpg

On year = 12,000 miles

Price per gallon of premium gas = $3.80

Stock TLC = 800 gallons used in 12k miles = $3,040

Modded TLC = 1200 gallons used in 12k miles = $4,560

Difference over 12k miles = $1,520

The difference becomes greater if you drive more miles...and greater if gas prices go up. Does $1500+ hurt? I don't know, depending on person...even though I am not on food stamp, $1500+ per 12k miles does hurt no matter how you slice it.

As mentioned above, there are many around the world with the most demanding requirements who understand exactly why they are more than worth it.

Yeah, crazy expensive but also crazy capable with even crazier realibility.
