8 wraps thowing shock alignment off

Well.... It looks like i may have a set of 8wraps for sale.... Didnt seem to matter what we did, no luck at getting the top of the shock any closer to the hole.... So, guess i need to find out which OME spings to get for 3" of lift

Where did you get the 8 wraps from? Are you sure they aren't springs off a lifted LC?

Also, do you have the total extended length of the rough countries?

Only a couple inches, the 8 wraps are softer though. As easy of a job it is, I think it would be easier with the 8 wraps. :shrug:

Sorry to hear you're mechanic is screwing it up for you though! You should've been back on the road with your 8wraps and shocks installed a while ago.

If he's talking about the same rough countries for 3" lift from Wheelers, I just talked to Dan the other day and got the specs, 13.89" closed and 23.04" open. I run them with 7.5 and 8 wraps. Hope this helps.

Got them from a salvage yard. They looked to be just regular 8wraps from all the pics I seen.
The rough countries as far as I know, are supposed to be 3" longer travel, no clue offhand what the total length is, sorry.

I wish I had taken pics of the problem. The shocks are long enough by far. When dropping the axle onto the springs to start the shocks, the shocks won't bend back far enough, dropping the axle rotates it forward some, even after putting all the weight of the truck on the coils, they compress a little, but the shock still sticks forward at about 30 degrees and won't rotate back far enough to put the top of the shock into the stock hole to bolt in in. I'm not sure if that made sense?

Oh well, if I can't do it myself, I gotta deal with paying someone to do, and that means doing it within their comfort range. OME are on their way, so hopefully come monday I won't be looking all crazy with my ass dragging on the ground.

I'll post them up of the final product when I get the OMEs on. And I gotta dig for a couple before pics? Doh! I am horrible about keeping pics in a sensible order on the computer, hence why I don't have many in my albums

Myself and I think others on here put the top of the shock in first. Maybe try that? I know they were still a pain but like blcktpgsr said a little grease and a rubber mallet gets the of the shock on without too much trouble.

You should be able to simply push them back on to the lower shock mount. The rubber bushings allow for enough movement at the top mount. If you didn't use any rubber bushings that might be why it was so hard to move the shock....about the only thing I can think of that would make them too stiff to move.

You can compress the shocks by hand if needed.

Oh boy. You never answered my question. Did you unbolt the track bar and loosen the control arms? This isn't a hard job at all. I'll bet you (you name the wager) that they fit. It's the procedure that's incorrect. Not knocking you or your mechanic but you're doing it wrong.

I wasnt there for a while while they tried a few other things before they called it quits. I've already got the OME coils on the way, so hopefully those will work out better for him come Monday. Can't make a man do something he aint comfortable with in his own shop right?

Not sure actually. He was able to get the OMEs stuffed no problem. I think the idea of shoving the LCs under there, and having to compress them more to make them for kinda just sketched him out. In the end it all turned out fine, I love the ride I am getting from the OME 890s. Though, I am considering pulling my isolator from the front and softening it up a bit.
