$800 Steal

Name is chase, currently stationed in GA "Army 11b" , but originally from CA. Just returned from the Stan 4 months ago & wanted something I could take off road & hang around with, plus serve as my SHTF vechicle :wow2:

Just picked up a 89 4runner, from a fellow soldier who was just looking to get rid of it. Payed a wopping $800 for it.

The good:
It runs & drives/shifts just fine
Only 141k on the odometer
Its a toyota

The bad:
Needs a new rear axle seal, its leaking pretty bad " If anyone can help send me to link on where to purchase one as I cannot find one "

The clutch is going out " sourced a duralast complete kit for $97

& one of the lifters needs to be adjusted, its causing oil to be pushed out of the PCV valve & has a very audible tick.

After the fix the above problems & perform basic maintenance & up keep, I am looking to throw on a set of 35X12.50R15. I took it out today in the mud with a friend who has a 89 pickup & it did very well in about 3-4 feet worth of water. Not sure if this is a proper intro thread, but I figured I would start somewhere.

As he said. Welcome! Looks like you came up on this deal bud. Any Toyota for 800 is a deal for sure. Talk to the guys in the classic section. They know there stuff and I'm sure can point you in the right direction for stuff. Glad you made it back from the S$%^ box Stan. Two tours myself last one was in the upper valley of Sangin area in 08. Enough said right!

wow dude Welcome home! I got 2 trips to trashganistan. good times. 800 bucks for a runnin truck...hell yeah! I would have jumped on that too. Sounds like the things you have listed are all relatively easy fixes too. Grab yourself a service manual and a case of beer and you should be on yer way. Again welcome home, and thank you for your service.

ha ha I just noticed you are in ft Stewart. I was there from 03-06. try not to spend all that deployment money at the silver dollar, use it on that runner instead mang.

Nice looking truck, and a great deal. Luckily, you obviously know enough about the mechanical issues that you shouldn't have much trouble getting it into good shape. You're gonna enjoy it.

Thanks for your service. Good deal, i want a 1st gen but they are hard to find here on the east coast in good shape due to rust issues.
