84 first Gen exhaust

done the search , did the reading , so now I`ll open the can of worms ! stock 84 4 runner EFI . need the exhaust from the rear of cat back . first I was going to gut the cat and go from there back . looks like 2" to muffler 2" out . ok so what`s out there other then midas ? that's all that's here local $600 !! that just seems crazy !!! or do I just make it ?

I'm sure you have a shop close by that would do the work for less. 6 pack of good beer usually gets the best deals or at least with me they do. :cheers:

I hear ya ! small town . not much game here . the electricians at work have big conduit benders that look like they handle more than 2" . I just have a lot on my plate right now .

what would be a good muffler ? before or after rear axle like stock ?

Why not just get aftermarket stock replacement parts and be done with it.
If you can do it yourself it's the cheapest way to go.

I`ve been trying that . the closest I can come to is a pipe and muffler for a 1986 from walker . @ $160 + ship&hand. so next question . the diff between 84 & 86 ?

You said yours is EFI and is an 84? Correct me if I am wrong but, If its an 84 its a carby unless swapped at one point. Anyhow the exhaust should be identical with the exception of the O2 bung being in a different area possibly.

correct . I have know idea why I said EFI . there is an O2 sensor on the cat with an air pump. is this ca. emissions or fed ? thank you . would like to go with a simple bolt in for now until I have more time to mess with the new toy. how can I delete the air pump ? this part of Colorado has no emissions check .

The walker pipe should fit then. I'm running the same pipe with a magnaflow muffler on my 84 pickup. I am not positive about the air pump though. The po of my truck removed it so I don't know what is all involved in taking it off. I know you can get the block off plates for it which my truck has. Are you running the stock carb or a weber? Doing away with the emissions on a stock carb can be a bit time consuming mostly because of all the vacuum lines. (look up desmog 22r) I blocked off my egr but left everything in place for a visual check on mines. It was stuck open and messed with my idle. Hope this might have helped clear some things up.

There is no O2 sensor, that's a temp sensor that goes into the cat conv.
The exhaust on my 84 is made up of parts from several years of 2WD Toy trucks that someone gave me. They are all fairl close.

I think you would be better off doing the work yourself. I just added a new muffler to my truck and it was very easy. The only problems i had was that my friend cut the pipe (before the muffler) in the middle of a curve. So it was angled up a little. And i ran it just cat for awhile so the pipe expanded 1/8 of an inch.

But all you do is chop off our old muffler. And find an adapter piece (4 dollar part) and connect the muffler. And then buy clamps to secure it. Some people just stop there because its louder (i think). But running pipe all the way to the back of your truck wouldnt be too hard, they have L pipes you can use at most auto parts shops.
