Got the charging system operational, they've been driving this unit all over, no problems.
Until a couple of days ago, no start. Cranks fine, no start.
Went to check it out, started right up.
There is a point to this.
Left the keys with them, said can't find an intermittent that isn't there right now.
Left for the day, on the way home in the afternoon (Sunday), drove by, the parking lights are on.
Odd. Stopped and rotated the headlamp switch, they went off.
Okay, relay controlled, relays don't usually operate themselves...so a switch or something grounding.
Later on in the afternoon, back on again when i went by.
Finally caught the owner home, told him to throw it on a charger before he went to bed so I could snag the vehicle to the shop Monday morning.
He mentions the vehicle has not been on the road for three years due to the charging problem no one could find.
Oh, dear.
Dragged it over to the shop this morning (no time to work on it), sat there for over two hours, as I am walking up the drive from getting the mail, I hear a click (muffled) and the park lights come on.
No way to get them off, so disconnected the battery.
I had asked when I first picked up the vehicle to address the charge issue if there was an alarm.
No, he says, never had an alarm.
However, when I drove it here this morning, I got a "beep" when I shut it off and opened the door.
I have done a little research....looks like there is some kind of Toyota security system, possibly a box under the seat on the floorboards.
I need to kill it. Dead.
I am suspecting the "crank but no start", and the park lights coming on are related to the security system, and with the corrosion possibilities of three years dormant, not in a garage, neither he nor I want to deal with trying to repair it.
Anyone done a full disable and had everything work normally?
I can do it long-hand, but if there's and easy way that won't kill power to the fuel injection computer, I'd like to know.
