89 mild build

Still fighting grimlins! Another oil leak, charging issues, etc. (fixed)

Starter issues are fixed..... Did the wiring fix since mine was one of the few that had the fatle flawed wiring. Now that its hooked to the 40amp fuse it worked 100% of the time!
Thanks to RAD4RUNNER http://www.yotatech.com/f199/rad4runners-1986-4runner-dlx-build-up-252300/index3.html#post51975700

Built 1.5" seat risers the rears of the seats. Its better, but I may make bigger ones for the rear & rase the fronts too.

Someone asked a while back about where I was going to put all my speakers without serious permanent mods..... Most of it is done. The 2 - 4" are in the dash. The 2 - 5 1/4" will be in my custom kick panels. (Easy to relocate the CPU & box that's on the drivers side to make room.) 2- 6 1/2 in the junk pockets above the rear seat (just a little bit of custom work) The 2 - 8" are in customized boxes between the roll bar legs. 6 tweeters mounted up high & the single 10" sub is in a box in the back.
Will try to get pics posted, but my computer is not working so I'll have to see if I can take pics with my tablet & figure out how to post them. If i can, the quality won't be very good.

It looks terrific. I always wanted to take the stripes off mine but never did. It's not fair that you put in a new motor and have other gremlins.

still battling issues with the new motor. Has lousy gas mileage 11 miles to the gallon seems to be my best average with 90% highway driving at 55 miles an hour below 3000 rpms. Recently has started having issues with not running well so now I have to look at that. Hard to believe I only have 2000 miles on this truck so far. Now so have new alternator & new battery as well.

just got taxes back so Imgoing to try & talk the wife into letting me get the Old Man Emu leaf springs and ball joint spacers along with fixing some of the other issues that I've been having above.

Found a cup holder at the Goodwill that I think will work for most of you out there. It works perfect for the front and/or the back. So I'm going to try to find another one or 2 like it. I will make a post about it and show pictures of what it looks like when I can figure out how to do so with my tablet. Can't quite figure out how to upload a photo to Photobucket from this nexus 7 (& my computer is dead)

wrecked my 4Runner 2 days ago.

Some young girl sped past me on a 55 mph highway... she went up & over a blind hill dissapered (roughly 1/8 mile ahead of me). As I came up over the top, she was stopped in the middle of the road for a F***ing dog & rear ended her. @ 55 mph There was less than 3 seconds for me to realize she was 100% stopped, & then react/try to stop. Her saturn was smashed in 50%! (if there had been rear passengers, they would have been likely killed.)
Both me & my daughter have whiplash (as does the girl, im pretty sure)

It is really stupid to stop in the middle of the road or swerve for an animal! Expecially just over the top of a hill on a 55 mph highway Hopefully she learned & will never do that again for the rest of her life. Her poor decision could have easily cost her, me & my 6 year old daughter &/or other peoples lives! (its a major highway that has a few hundred or more semi's travel it daily. If one of them had hit her she would have most likely been dead.)

The insurance co will probably total out my rig. I cant find all my receipts for all the new parts. We just moved & I was going back to get a another load of misc. stuff I still had @ the old house/garage. so things are a mess & cant find them all. (did find roughly $3100 wort of the nearly $5000+) Its a shame, because im the second owner of it. Put lots of time & $ into it, Was always kept in a garage (even by po) Top had never even been removed, & had Never been in an accident before!

(Yes thats her bumper still imbedded in the front of my rig. The damage to the rear bumper was from my 4x8 utility trailer... trailer has some damage as well, but is fixable.)

That is awful. Glad you're okay. Many people would find a way to repair it. Get some fair market comparables by checking the completed listings on eBay.

I have found a total of just over $4100 worth of receipts now. Yet The insurance company only offered me $2460 for my for my truck . I told them that was an insult ( was not very nice to them.) Later they upped their offer to $3400 Again I said no & told them they needed to fix my vehicle and get it back to me as soon as possible. If they did not like that option they could go buy me another vehicle in the same condition then buy a brand new motor with 3 year warranty fill it full of gas and put two years worth of tags on it and deliver it to my house! (the agent I was dealing with claims to own a good condition 87. I told him that should mean that he knows the value of my vehicle. And yes I have sent them all of the photos that I have taken of this vehicle since the first day I got it.)

They say its an old vehicle and has very little value. Yet, they claims there is over $9000 worth of damage to it. When I asked them how the hell they arrived at such a high number, the response was " its a old vehicle and the parts are rare & very hard to come by in good condition making them very expensive."
Doesn't that show the value of my vehicle? In my opinion they just shot themselves in the foot by saying my truck is old rare and very expensive. Still not a hundred percent sure how I go about fighting them on the value. But I'm trying.

I asked if I could inspect the vehicle to decide if I want to "buy it back" and they said no I cannot go in the yard it is at. They also said I cannot even go and get my personal belongings that are still in there now that they have made me an offer.
I still do not understand what the hell they're talking about with me having to "buy back" My own vehicle from them or not allowing me to get My stuff from My vehicle. The title is in my name and I have not signed over anything or agreed to any price with them what so ever!

I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they are going to offer me any more for my vehicle. If they say no, I will demand that they tow my vehicle back to my house until we agree upon a value of my vehicle or they repair it! I don't care if they do not want to replace the aftermarket bumpers or even paint it the same color. All I want is them to fix it so it is safe to drive down the road, look decent & not have a salvage or reconstructed title. If they want to argue, I will threaten them, with getting a lawyer. (Then, I will call every single one in the book till I find one that is willing to help me!).
I pay a ton for max full coverage including lots of extras ( towing, theft, glass coverage, extra medical coverage, etc.) because I know the value of my vehicle and wanted myself & it to be covered just in case. I even explained the reasoning for me wanting all the extra coverage. So they knew ahead of time and were instructed to put notes in my file about the amount that I had spent on this vehicle so that it would be covered if something were ever to happen. And now my insurance rates are going to go way up because of this accident and then claiming it's my fault. I have a court date and am going to try to fight the ticket and if I get that part taken care of, then I will have more ammunition to use against them and their reasonings for upping my rates.

Can't remember the name brand. But bought them @ a local speed/ tuner shop. They are an ultra white bulb. Light blue in color with an oily looking coating. ( believe they are filled with halogen gas. Used the same thing in the readers reverse lights and they were 2 times as bright.

Ill post some pics of what they look like. dont know if that will help, but it may?

well... couldnt find anything so decided to fix mine......

I found the same color 88 pu & got a hood, core support/inner fender & a broken grill (it was free). I tore mine all down. then cut off the bad core support & inner fender. Used a spot weld bit from Harbor freight. It worked pretty good. but you got to really get a good deep center punch hole first so it stays where you want it) welded on the new parts. seam sealed it all up, primed/painted/undercoated

the truck was a 4 cyl, so I had to drill new holes for the air box. & the cruse control... prepped, primed & painted the fender to match (was white) Its not perfect, but is good enough for now. Hood is faided, but its good enough for now as well. & epoxied the grill back together & painted it black since the chrome was bad.

DAMN! Just saw this thread of yours, sorry to hear about what happened!

I too had a similar thing with my truck years ago, insurance tried to total it, luckily my neighbor was my agent and she went to bat for me. I decided to just do a straight axle swap, since the whole front drivetrain was shot! They paid for the frame straightening, which went way better than expected! One pull and they had it back to stock specs (was a fantastic body shop!)!

Sucks to have happened to such a clean rig, but at least you got it back on the road again!

If you don't have a radiator for it yet, hit me up, I may have a great deal for ya!

Got a 3 core in my truck right now, works perfectly but I have a brand new one that I've been meaning to swap it with. You can have the old radiator for a gallon of Toyota red antifreeze! How's that for a deal???

I'm in Nampa by the airport, only 15 or 20 minutes from ya!

well, I got a radiator.... & then this happened after 14 mile.(hard to tell in the pics, but the bearing
disintegrated) knew I should have replaced the damed clutch fan Hub or what ever its called! messed up the radiator & the fan.:mmph:

how much is the toyota red?

Oh, and that water pump looks like the shaft broke! I dunno if a stuck fan would have done that, but an unbalanced fan would definitely fry the bearings on the water pump!

Did you check it to see if the fan was rotating evenly, or wobbling?

Dang man, that's rough! Always sucks to put a lot of time and $$ into something and have it pulled back like that... But the trucks looking good now! Curious, where did you get your vacuum lines? I really like the blue ones, and I need to replace the stock 89 ones on mine hah.
